Tracing listening across two urban nodes—Kalibata Pulo (Jakarta) & Sahintepe (Istanbul)—through soundwalks, placemaking, and community-based learning practices activated over the past 18 months, this project probes water knowledge, memory, and the sounds that choreograph everyday life.
This public presentation invites audiences to “walk while listening” to read the city from its smallest scales: alleys, riverbanks, front yards, hillsides. From field recordings and story archives to children’s play in flood pools, we examine how water shapes social relations, memory, and infrastructure. The resulting works connect residents’ experiences with urban-ecology discourse, showing that sound never disappears: it interweaves across generations, challenges the mismanagement of water dynamics by stakeholders, and guides imaginaries of the city and urban life in the future.
Come, listen, and create new sounds to weave our relationships with water, the city, and one another.
