Laut Loud (((~))) is an archival and performance project collaboratively initiated by Arka Kinari and the coastal communities they encountered throughout their voyages. The project documents the distinctive sounds and musical traditions of port communities across the Indo-Pacific archipelago—communities and cultures that often remain absent from conventional maps and narratives.

Together with Raka Ibrahim and Hibatul Hakim, audiences are invited to dive into stories from Buru, Ambon, Makassar, and beyond, exploring how coastal cultures and communities continue to endure amid growing ecological threats.

Raka Ibrahim, a writer, interventionist, and cultural activist traveling across the Indonesian archipelago, he explores music, underground culture, and everyday politics through journalism.

He joined Arka Kinari in 2021, evolving from crew member to program curator, and now works with Yayasan Lintas Batas and the Coastal Community Conference to connect cultural initiatives across coastal communities.

Hibatul Hakim, Bali-based photographer and filmmaker who has been documenting Indonesia’s music scene since 2017 through platforms including Laut Loud, Konser Bali, and irockumentary.club.

His work has been featured internationally, and since 2022, he has been part of Arka Kinari while also contributing to the Artivist Network and Radish Radio.

Beyond the shoreline lies a world of sounds, memories, and stories that rarely make their way into mainstream environmental and cultural narratives.

Every photograph carries two quiet truths: the reality captured in front of the lens, and the unspoken memory it wakes up inside the person looking back.

In a world conditioned to scroll past hundreds of images a second, In The Margin of The Lens is an intentional invitation to slow down.

In this tactile collaboration between Dari Sisi Selatan and JIPFest, we step beyond passive viewing. You will walk through a curated gallery, select a single print that calls to you intuitively, and sit with it. Guided by a custom journaling booklet, you’ll let the shadows, light, and subjects of that image serve not as art to critique, but as footnotes to your own lived experience.

Sometimes, we don’t need to move forward. We simply need a moment to pause and make sense of where we are.

SISI is a journaling collective created as a space for honest expression, beyond the pressure of “good writing” or performance. A place to slow down, process what we experience, and look at life from another side, a warmer, more grounded perspective where we can simply be ourselves.

Cikini has countless stories within its street corners and the towering buildings that surround them. Yet, if you type “Cikini Incident” into a search engine, the results point to the 1957 assassination attempt on President Sukarno by the Anti-Communist Movement. The anti-communist sentiment of that era went beyond the gr***de attacks; but also properties were forcibly seized, including the home of DN Aidit, the Lekra secretariat office, and the residence of Sukrisno.

The Kolektif Merawat Ingatan invites you to walk through Cikini street and capture moments in still photographs for this year’s JIPFest.

Kolektif Merawat Ingatan is a collective of archivists, designers, researchers, and facilitators who use creative and artistic approaches to transform collective memory into hope and action for today’s movements.

Through archives, research, and art, they revisit and retell stories of individuals, communities, movements, and events marginalized or erased by unjust systems. Their work focuses on activism, social movements, and reclaiming overlooked histories.

Iqbal Lubis, Makassar-based freelance photographer working across documentary, editorial, and portrait photography.

His work has been published by TEMPO, VICE, Mongabay, Tirto.id, DestinAsian Indonesia, Xinhua, and EPA, and he is a recipient of a Pulitzer Center grant.

Rizky Rahad, film programmer, researcher, and practitioner exploring q***r aesthetics as “rebellious worldmaking.” A producer of Sound Guardians and co-organizer of Bali-based film collective QAMERAD, Rizky has received the Bertha Artivism Awards 2026, Flaherty Film Fellowship 2025, and British Council Connection Through Culture Grant 2024.

Febrianti, Padang-based freelance journalist focusing on Indigenous communities in the Mentawai Islands. His work has been published by Project Multatuli, Tempo, BBC Indonesia, and Ekuatorial, and he is a member of the Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists (SIEJ) and a recipient of the Rainforest Journalism Fund Southeast Asia grant.

Designed as an open and supportive exchange, the program encourages participants to look at their work from new perspectives and consider where their practice might go next. It is an opportunity to connect, reflect, and find new possibilities through conversation.

Adrian Mulya (b. 1974) is a Jakarta-based independent, self-taught photographer exploring social and human issues. His works include Winners of Life (2016), documenting female former political prisoners of 1965; So Far, So Close, exploring personal and national history; and Serabutan (2021), examining working conditions in the gig economy. His projects have been exhibited in Indonesia and internationally, and he currently works as a photo editor at Project Multatuli.

Dimas Sugih is an analog photographer exploring identity, community, and everyday life through intimate visual storytelling. His work has been featured in exhibitions and cultural programs in Indonesia and internationally, including Amplifier Art London, Panna Future Talents, Indonesia Photo Fair at JIPFest, and Jakarta Biennale 2024. Across Maluku and Papua, four generations of women share their experiences, hopes, and visions for the future as development continues to transform the places they call home.

‘Potret Mama’ (Stories from the East) is a documentary series that brings these perspectives to the forefront, tracing stories from Inanwatan, Neniari Gunung, Sarmi, and Tehoru. Through their voices, the project invites us to look beyond the idea of progress and ask what development truly means for the communities experiencing it firsthand.

Zeta Kinanti, Audiovisual storyteller whose practice incorporates social anthropology, exploring visibility and new perspectives on femininity, particularly by recontextualizing it through local lived experiences. She is currently a student at the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia.

Born and raised in Neniari, Maluku, Elvira Lumapuy is a forestry professional dedicated to natural resource management and Indigenous communities. As a Program Associate at EcoNusa, she supports conservation and participatory mapping initiatives across Maluku, promoting an approach that connects forest protection, community knowledge, and sustainable livelihoods

This session brings together Juliana Tan and Rebecca Kailola-Simons to explore the spaces between remembering, forgetting, and retelling. Through A Kind of Magic, Juliana reflects on childhood landscapes transformed by displacement and time, while Rebecca’s Batu Bicara draws from Dutch-Moluccan family histories, oral traditions, and myth to uncover narratives beyond official records.

Together, they explore photography as a space for revisiting, questioning, and passing on memories and histories in new forms.

Juliana Tan is a Singapore-based photographer whose work examines the psychological and symbolic dimensions of memory, identity, and politics. Working within a post-documentary framework, her practice moves between observation, allegory, and metaphor, negotiating photography’s capacity to both record and interrogate lived experience.

Juliana’s first monograph, A Kind of Magic, was shortlisted for the Lucie Foundation Photo Book Prize and Athens Photo Festival Book Program. Her work has been exhibited at Angkor Photo Festival (Cambodia) and Objectifs (Singapore).

Rebecca Kailola-Simons is a photographic artist, educator and editor based in the Netherlands. Her artistic practice explores the relationship between memory, history, and constructed narratives through photography, video, and installation.

Her ongoing artistic research project, Batu Bicara, revisits Moluccan-Dutch colonial history through documentary storytelling, family history, archival research, and myth. The project explores the tension between official histories and more relational

This session brings together photographer Iqbal Lubis and Ramlah, an Indigenous Kajang woman, to share their perspectives on belief practices, relationships with nature, and the challenges of preserving ancestral knowledge and values amid changing times.

Through the participatory Image Theater method, participants are invited to respond to these stories through movement and wordless acting as a space for reflection on social issues.

Presented in collaboration with JIPFest, Pulitzer Center, and Kolektif Merawat Ingatan.

Iqbal Lubis, a self-taught photographer whose work explores social, cultural, environmental, and humanitarian issues, with publications in leading national and international media (TEMPO, VICE, Project Multatuli, Iklimku.org, Xinhua News Agency, and EPA Images).

A two-time Pulitzer Center Grant recipient (2024–2025) and award-winning photographer (Best Work Photo Story – Panna Photo Grant 2019, Photo of the Year – APFI 2025, Excellence in Photography – SOPA Awards 2025). He is also actively involved in photography education and community programs.

Ramlah, an Indigenous Kajang woman who actively advocates for the rights of Indigenous Kajang women and supports women weavers of the traditional Tope Le’leng Kajang sarong.
