Urut is a traditional form of therapeutic massage widely practised across Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia. The technique typically involves deliberate pressure, rhythmic kneading, and measured strokes applied to the muscles, joints, and surrounding tissues with the aim of alleviating discomfort, improving circulation, and restoring the body’s natural sense of balance.

Within the Indonesian context, pijat urut is commonly employed to relieve muscular fatigue, minor physical strains, and tension, whilst also serving as a means of promoting general relaxation. Practitioners, often referred to as tukang urut, may utilise traditional oils, balms, or warming liniments to enhance the therapeutic effect of the treatment.

Urut remains an integral component of traditional healthcare practices and continues to be valued in contemporary society for its restorative qualities.
