I painted "Garuda Rindu Mentari" about 13 years ago, when I tried to participate in a painting competition. But do you think it’s still relevant these day?

In the painting, Garuda is holding a weighing scale and trying to fly toward the sun, but unfortunately, its legs are bound with chains and haunted by shadows. Although the process was long and tough, there is still hope that one day Garuda will be able to fly high.

Well, maybe it’s not the perfect painting (since it was only my second acrylic painting), but I’m happy to see my younger self trying to express an idea through art.

This is my first acrylic painting, which I learned to create in school when I was a junior high student. I still remember the joy of painting a beautiful landscape and the fun of learning how to use the brush and play with colors. I’m grateful to my art teacher!

Unfinished painting of "Sebatang Kara?"

The original idea was to paint an abandoned log in the middle of the forest. I thought it would be interesting to convey the concept of being alone but not lonely.

At first, the log was simply left behind, isolated, but over time, nature took care of it and gave it a new purpose. It became a home for caterpillars, a dining table for birds, a place for random vines to lean on, and a path for ants.

Unfortunately, for some reason, I didn’t have time to finish the painting, leaving the log without any other creatures.

It turns out that the log really is alone, as reflected in the title "Sebatang Kara," with no twists in the painting.
