ARTIST SPOTLIGHT - KUBA SKOWROŃSKI

Ahead of the highly anticipated Joey Alexander show on July 11th we thought you may like to find out more about the musicians performing on the night...

Kuba Skowroński is a Polish saxophonist and improviser with a reputation built across Europe, Asia, and beyond. Trained at the Academy of Music in Katowice and the Jazz Institut Berlin, his sound is rooted in the bebop tradition while drawing on a broad range of influences — from Stan Getz and Charlie Parker to Michael Brecker and Herbie Hancock.

A decorated competitor, he has taken top honours at the European Jazz Contest in Rome, Jazz nad Odrą, and the Blue Note Poznań Competition. He has shared the stage with Jean-Luc Ponty, Soweto Kinch, Leszek Możdżer, and Maciej Obara, and has appeared on over 20 recorded albums — including Nothing to Prove with the Michał Martyniuk Trio, nominated for the Fryderyk, Poland's most prestigious music award.

Described by critics as a focused, deliberate player who builds a nostalgic, bebop-inflected mood, Skowroński brings both technical command and deep musical empathy to every performance.

MEET THE BAND - TYSON D JACKSON

Ahead of the show on July 11th we thought you may like to find out more about the band who will be accompanying Joey Alexander.

Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, Tyson Jackson discovered his passion for music at just 3 years old—first finding rhythm at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he would drum along on hymnals during services.

His journey has taken him through leading performing arts institutions, where his love for music deepened and evolved. Along the way, Tyson has been mentored by some of the most respected names in the industry, including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Terence Blanchard, Terri Lyne Carrington, Tia Fuller, and more.

These experiences have helped shape his artistic voice—one that honours tradition while embracing innovation.

“As an artist, I realise that I serve as a vessel for music to flow through. It is my duty to continue to pay homage to the masters who have come before me, while incorporating an innovative approach to my artistry, personal brand, and musical endeavours as I develop”.

One of our most requested acts, Joey Alexander returns to Bali for the first time since 2024, but this time with his own New York band for a rare and highly anticipated homecoming performance.

Recognised globally as one of the most remarkable jazz artists of his generation, Joey has earned multiple Grammy nominations and international acclaim for his distinctive style as both pianist and composer.

For this special performance, he is joined by his own ensemble—bringing a deeper level of musical chemistry, interplay, and artistic direction.

Following a history of sold-out appearances at the Padma Musical Series, this concert marks a new chapter: a more mature, expansive sound from an artist who has evolved from prodigy to global force.

Featuring:

JOEY ALEXANDER (Piano)
Bali-born jazz pianist and multiple Grammy nominee, internationally acclaimed for his remarkable artistry from a young age. Having performed on the Grammy stage and featured on platforms such as NPR Tiny Desk and 60 Minutes, he has established himself as one of the leading voices of his generation, known for his expressive playing and distinctive musical identity.

DANIEL WINSHALL (Bass)
New York–based bassist known for his expressive upright and electric playing. A New School graduate, he has performed with artists including Wynton Marsalis and Keyon Harrold, and appears regularly at leading NYC venues.

KUBA SKOWRONSKI (Saxophone)
Polish-born saxophonist blending European jazz training with Indonesia’s live scene. Known for an expressive, cross-cultural approach shaped through international performances and collaborations.

TYSON D. JACKSON (Drums)
American drummer and Berklee graduate whose roots in jazz and gospel inform a dynamic, forward-thinking style. Mentored by leading artists, he brings both musicality and energy to the stage.
