A lot of fans have forgotten what the original manga panel actually showed 😑
The scene comes from Retsu Kaioh in Baki, specifically during the events of Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre.
After his brutal fight with Pickle, the prehistoric warrior bites off and eats Retsu’s right leg. The hospital panel that follows is meant to be tragic and reflective, showing the once-proud martial artist lying in a bed, heavily injured but still alive.
However, the internet turned the dramatic zoom-out panel into a meme.
Edited versions remove more and more of Retsu’s body until only his head remains on the pillow, completely stripping the moment of its impact.
