Németh Laca – “ Keep the Tape Rolling” opens the Skurc Group’s 2026 exhibition series. This session will unfold in monthly segments of solo chamber exhibitions, each presenting a distinctive artistic vision. We believe these projects not only reflect the maturity of each artist’s individual practice but also engage meaningfully with the broader horizons of contemporary art discourse.
László Németh was born in 1988 in Nyíregyháza. He studied at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts under Zsigmond Károlyi, where he discovered his own direction in abstract expressionist painting. The university provided not only theoretical grounding and practical training but also an artistic community, which after graduation began organizing exhibitions under the name Skurc Group. Alongside Skurc, which also curates international shows, Németh is a member of the Birds of Cool collective, with whom he develops cooperative painting projects (Q Contemporary, Modem, etc.).
His artistic roots lie in graffiti, as well as figurative and abstract expressionist tendencies, neo-expressionism, and Heftige Malerei. His canvases often feature a technique that combines monotype and acrylic transfer, which the artist has named brume pressée (literally “pressed mist”). This experimental process translates the delicate folds and creases of veil-like textiles into the illusory, sensitive spatiality of the canvas surface.
Within Németh’s practice, brume pressée functions as a projection surface, an “unmade bed,” where—like Lautréamont on the surrealist dissecting table—he can play with the juxtaposition, mixing, and montage of his motifs.
