Jan van Eyck - "St Jerome"

The painting is attributed to Jan van Eyck. The date of 1442 appears on the painting, showing that it was completed by workshop associates in just a year after Van Eyck's death. It can be supposed from the letter on the table, that St Jerome represents a portrait of Cardinal Niccolò Albergati.

Abraham van Dijck - "Isaak Blessing Jacob"

Because of the extremely Rembrandtesque character of a number of works by Van Dijck it has been assumed that he studied with Rembrandt between 150 and 1655. The present painting has previously been attributed to different Rembrandt pupils, but now it is convincingly attributed to Abraham van Dijck. The large figures, the colour scheme of red and gold and the dramatic chiaroscuro are very much in line with Rembrandt's late style.

Jean-Louis Demarne - "The Peasant's Family Comforting a Soldier"

Jean-Louis Demarne (also spelt de Marne), French painter. He went to Paris at the age of 12 after the death of his father, who had been in Brussels as an officer in the service of the Emperor of Austria. Having spent eight years studying history painting with Gabriel Briard (1729-1777), he entered the Prix de Rome in 1772 and 1774 but failed to win.

Dirck van Delen - "Interior Scene"

This painting depicts an interior scene with elegant figures playing music. The figures in the imaginary palatial interior were formerly attributed to Dirck Hals. However, they are very probably by Delen himself, modelled upon those painted by Hals in earlier joint works from the later 1620s.

Giovanni Battista Tiepolo - "The Banquet of Cleopatra"

The Banquet of Cleopatra is a painting by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo completed in 1744. It is now in the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. This is the first of three large paintings of the subject done by Tiepolo. In addition the much smaller oil studies or modelli for each survive.

Bartolome Esteban Murillo - "Boys Eating Grape and Melon"
Boy Eating Grapes and Melon is one of the famous genre art paintings by the Spanish painter Bartolome Esteban Murillo. It is a picture of two boys poorly dressed and looking famished. One is eating a slice of melon with the remaining melon on his lap. He is looking at the other boy, who is munching on some grapes. Beside this boy is a basket full of grapes. They look content and happy despite their condition. A happy portrait set against a rather dark background.

Chicago painter Archibald Motley represented the vibrancy of African American culture, frequently portraying young, sophisticated city dwellers out on the town. Nightlife depicts a crowded cabaret in the South Side neighborhood of Bronzeville, with people seated around tables and at the bar.

Diego Rivera - "Weaving"
In Weaving, Rivera depicted the centuries-old tradition of weaving with a back-strap loom. The woman, a well-known weaver, expert in the Nahuatl language, and popular artists’ model named Luz Jiménez, appears intently focused on creating the intricate red, blue, white, and black pattern of the fabric that is rolled up in her lap. Placed against the spare background of Rivera’s studio, the weaver’s actions take on greater significance and dignity.
