The European Roma Cultural Foundation (ERCF) is an independent non-profit foundation registered on the 2nd of August, 2010, in Budapest, Hungary. ERCF, the operational and fundr

aising body, exists to strengthen and widely promote the role of Roma arts and culture in the enlarging Europe (and beyond) as a way to fight against negative stereotypes and hostile attitudes towards Roma communities. For a future world of artistic and cultural diversity where Roma arts, culture, history and language are equally valued and respected, and the power of artistic creation and education, especially that of young people, is essential for changing negative stereotypes towards people of Roma origin in the enlarging Europe and beyond. Gallery8 is strategically located at Mátyás tér, the center of Budapest's 8th district, the area of the city, which is mostly populated by Roma inhabitants. Gallery8 aims to serve the Roma community: it aims to enable and support the production, presentation and interpretation of Roma artworks. It is envisioned as an intercultural space, where the experimentation, creation, collaboration, and discussion between Roma and non-Roma could take place and result in new works and solutions for a future in peaceful coexistence. Gallery8 wishes to put emphasis on investing in the capacities of young Roma artists, presenters, managers and entrepreneurs to help them to succeed, to learn, to be accepted positively by broad audiences, to become more knowledgeable and actively engaged in networking and collaboration in Europe and beyond. Gallery 8 aims to motivate the development of innovative projects and experimental cross-disciplinary work of young Roma. Az Európai Roma Kulturális Alapítvány (European Roma Cultural Foundation – ERCF) független, 2010. augusztus 2-án Budapesten bejegyzett non-profit szervezet. Az ERCF a roma közösségekhez fűződő negatív sztereotípiák és előítéletek leküzdését a roma művészet és kultúra megfelelő reprezentálásában és erősítésében látja. Alapítványunk egy olyan, művészetileg és kulturálisan sokszínű jövő érdekében tevékenykedik, amelyben a roma művészet, kultúra, történelem és nyelv (a többségi társadaloméval) egyenlő mértékben értékes és fontos, és amelyben a művészeti kreativitás és oktatás ereje – elsősorban a fiatalság körében – kulcsszereppel bír a romákhoz fűződő negatív sztereotípiák megváltoztatásában az egyre szélesedő európai térben és azon túl. A Gallery8 a Mátyás téren található, Budapest 8. kerületének szívében, vagyis a fővárosnak túlnyomórészt romák által lakott részén. A Gallery8 célja, hogy a roma közösséget támogassa: a roma művészeti munkák alkotását, prezentálását és interpretálását szeretné lehetővé tenni és segíteni. Galériánkat – egyéb projektjeinkhez hasonlóan – egy valódi interkulturális térként képzeljük el, ahol a romák és nem-romák közti kísérletezés, kreativitás, együttműködés, eszmecsere helyet kaphatna, új alkotásokat és megoldásokat eredményezve ezzel egy jövőbeni békés együttélés érdekében. A Gallery8 fiatal roma művészek, művészeti projekt-vezetők, menedzserek és vállalkozók képességére, tevékenységére alapozva törekszik segíteni azokat, hogy ezáltal sikeressé válhassanak, tanulhassanak, hogy pozitívan fogadja őket a befogadó közönség, hogy elismertebbé váljanak, hogy aktívan tudjanak kapcsolatokat építeni és együttműködni más szervezetekkel Európában és Európán kívül. A Gallery8 célja, hogy fiatal romák innovatív projektjeit és kísérleti jellegű, interdiszciplináris munkáinak kidolgozását segítse elő. Reményeink szerint a Gallery8 olyan térré válik majd, melyben a roma kortárs művészet legújabb gondolatai, diskurzusai, trendjei kellőképpen kibontakozhatnak.

The European Roma Cultural Foundation mourns the passing of Tony Gatlif Tony Gatlif, one of the most consequential filmmakers in Roma cultural history.

Through films including Latcho Drom, Gadjo Dilo, Les Princes, Vengo and Exils, Gatlif transformed the cinematic representation of Roma lives, histories and cultures. At a time when Roma were overwhelmingly seen through images produced by others, his cinema created a radically different visual language , one shaped by Roma presence, music, movement, humour, desire, displacement and resistance.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, collaborators, and to the many communities across the world for whom his work has carried such profound meaning.

We have lost an extraordinary filmmaker and an irreplaceable voice.

OPEN CALL: SCHLOSS BRÖLLIN RESIDENCY 2027 🇩🇪

Funded Performing Arts Residency in Germany

Groups working in dance, performance, contemporary circus and related performing arts practices are invited to apply for a one- to two-week residency at Schloss Bröllin in Germany.

The residency can support a new production, the further development or revival of an existing work, or a research and exploratory phase requiring dedicated artistic development time.

The programme provides:

• rehearsal and working spaces
• basic technical equipment
• accommodation
• vegetarian meals
• possible pro-rata travel support, subject to agreement and availability
• the possibility of a public or internal presentation at the end of the residency

Residencies take place between May and September 2027. No residencies are available from August 1–15.

OPEN CALL: BOGHOSSIAN FOUNDATION ARTIST RESIDENCY — VILLA EMPAIN, BRUSSELS 🇧🇪

The Boghossian Foundation is inviting artists to apply for its residency programme at Villa Empain in Brussels.

The residency offers artists the time and space to develop their practice in an international and cross-disciplinary environment, bringing together artists, curators, writers and researchers. The programme is open to artists from all backgrounds and encourages exchange between different cultural contexts.

The residency lasts 2–3 months, depending on the project and availability. Artists coming from abroad can have their travel expenses covered, while the residency provides accommodation and access to a shared studio.

Applicants should submit:
• a 400-word project proposal
• a CV
• a 500-word statement related to the submitted work
• 10 images or 3 videos
• a list of works including title, material, dimensions and date.

Looking for funding to preserve, conserve or digitize cultural heritage?

The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) maintains a regularly updated overview of grant opportunities supporting conservation, preservation, digitization, audio reformatting and other forms of cultural heritage work.

The database brings together funding opportunities from state and federal agencies, regional organizations and foundations, making it a useful starting point for archives, libraries, museums, cultural organizations and other institutions working with historical and cultural collections.

Among the opportunities currently listed for 2026 are:

📌 1 September — Conservation Treatment Grant Program, New York State Arts Council / Greater Hudson Heritage Network — conservation of paintings, works on paper, drawings, watercolors, prints, photographs and frames.

🕯️ IHRA GRANT PROGRAM — FUNDING FOR PROJECTS ON THE HOLOCAUST AND THE GENOCIDE OF THE ROMA

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance - IHRA is now accepting applications for its 2026 Grant Call, supporting international, impactful projects that contribute to Holocaust remembrance, education and research, as well as work addressing the genocide of the Roma.

The programme supports projects that safeguard the record of the Holocaust and the genocide of the Roma, or counter Holocaust distortion. Funded projects can include work such as collecting and sharing testimonies, developing educational resources, preserving and making archives accessible, conducting research, and creating new approaches to remembrance and education.

The IHRA Grant Program welcomes applications from organizations and institutions around the world working in the fields of education, remembrance and research. Projects must have a clear international dimension, bringing together partners or target groups from at least two different countries.

OPEN CALL — CAMARGO FELLOWSHIP 2027–2028 🇫🇷

The Camargo Fellowship invites applications from artists, scholars and thinkers for a 10-week research-based residency in Cassis, France, on the Mediterranean coast.

The programme offers time and space for research, experimentation, creation and exchange across disciplines. 14 fellowships are awarded each year: 7 for artists and 7 for scholars and thinkers. Teams of up to three people may also apply, including interdisciplinary collaborations.

Artists can apply across a wide range of practices, including visual arts, performance, theatre, choreography, writing, film, video, digital arts, composition, sound art and multidisciplinary practice. The fellowship is research-based and is intended for artists with at least five years of professional practice and an established artistic trajectory.

Selected Fellows receive:

— €350 per week (€3,500 in total)
— Basic transportation to and from Cassis
— A furnished apartment at the Camargo Foundation
— Access to working and research facilities, including a reference library, music/conference room, open-air theatre, artist's studio and composer's studio.

🌍 OPEN CALL — ZMINA:RESILIENCE: SUPPORT FOR INTERNATIONAL SHOWCASING OF CO-CREATION PROJECTS

The ZMINA:Resilience programme, implemented by IZOLYATSIA. Platform for Cultural Initiatives. together with its European partners, supports cultural and arts organisations in bringing co-created artistic and cultural works to new audiences through international showcasing and presentation events.

The call is open to projects involving at least one organisation from Ukraine and one organisation from another Creative Europe country.

🎭 All cultural and artistic sectors are eligible, except audiovisual.

🌍 At least 6 public presentation events in at least two countries are required, including Ukraine.

💶 Up to €50,000 per project
Up to 90% of project costs can be covered.

The showcased work must already exist or be in its final stages of development.

Several new opportunities from the International Visegrad Fund open on 1 September 2026.

🎨 OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS — VISEGRAD ARTIST RESIDENCIES

The International Visegrad Fund’s 2026 Artist Residency calls open on 15 September 2026.

The Visual and Sound Artist Residency covers a broad range of practices, including design, music, video and film, new media and mixed media.

The 2026 residency round also includes a Performing Artist Residency for theatre and dance, a Literary Residency, a Fashion Residency in Milan, and a Visual Artist Residency in Brooklyn.

A signed acceptance letter from the host organisation is required for the application, so artists interested in applying should start securing a host already in September.
