The annual negotiation with the weather begins.
The evenings are getting darker, which is excellent news for anyone who likes candles and taking the long way home. The courtyard is still open, the heaters are on, and we’re not quite ready to surrender it to winter just yet.
From 1 October, there’s a new autumn/winter dinner menu at Brody House, served every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6PM till late. Warming plates, cocktails, live music and the usual business of deciding whether one more drink is, in fact, one more drink.
On 3 October, Russian Roulette returns after a well-earned summer break, bringing another evening of dark comedy, satire and improvisation. Then, on 8 October, composer Jancsó Gábor presents the second volume of Sounds from My Diary — an intimate contemporary classical concert for piano and string quartet. New stories, new pieces and new fragments from a life translated into music.
Later in the month, Brainiacs is back with Dez O’Connell. Questions will be asked, answers will be offered, and teams will discover which of their friends has been quietly collecting completely unnecessary information for years. There’s a rather serious collection of prizes on the line this time, so perhaps all that knowledge will finally have somewhere to go.
Meanwhile, ‘when we were somewhere else’ by Kiki Minkova is still on the walls. The photography exhibition is free to visit every day from 9AM to 5PM until 16 September. Come for the photographs. Stay for a coffee. Or simply take a break from whatever you were meant to be doing.
And, of course, there’s the annual Brody Blood Bath. Halloween is coming to the House, and the Brody List is beginning to take shape. A few names are already in, others are being whispered into the right ears, and there’s still room for a few more creatures. If you’d like to put your name forward, email [email protected] and charm your way in.
So, October.
Bring a coat. We’ll light the candles.
