FATHER ROCK

FATHER ROCK is a short film written & directed by Anthony Sylvester.

Inspired by his upbringing in a Catholic community in Philadelphia, and paired with his personal career as a freelancer in New York City, Anthony embarked on creating a fictional world where the Catholic Church officially fell apart, forcing all of its clergy to now fend for themselves, and sell and profit off of their religious services in order to survive -religious freelancers.

Throughout its centuries long history, the Catholic Church has afforded a living for any of its clergy that devotes his or herself to a life of service and devotion. What happens when this structure of support is no longer in place?

The piece envisions a a day in the life of Father Rock, a priest from the Bronx, who struggles with this dilemma, as he must sell indulgences to those willing to pay for his services, and a constant pressure to address his waning ethical threshold.
