Mi a közös Pachelbelben és a Pet Shop Boysban?
Szeptember 1. nemcsak a tanévkezdés örök születésnapja, hanem Johann Pachelbelé is, aki valószínűleg nem lenne nagyon boldog, ha tudná, hogy legnépszerűbb műve éppenséggel egy kánon lett és nevét Buxtehudéra és J. S. Bachra tett hatása helyett egy viszonylag egyszerű mű kapcsán emlegetjük.
Mi lehet a titka a "Pachelbel-kánon"-nak zeneelméleti tekintetben?
Az egyik kulcs majdnem biztosan a szekvencia jelensége. A harmóniai szekvenciában egy akkordkapcsolat helyeződik át újabb és újabb skálafokra, azaz más-más magasságba. September 1 is not only the “birthday” of the start of the school year in Hungary, but also that of Johann Pachelbel, who probably wouldn’t be very happy if he knew that his most popular work has become a canon and that his name is mentioned in connection with a relatively simple piece rather than for his influence on Buxtehude and J. S. Bach.
What might be the secret of the “Pachelbel Canon” from a music-theoretical perspective?
One key factor is almost certainly the phenomenon of the sequence. In a harmonic sequence, a pair of chords is shifted to successive scale degrees—that is, to different pitches. This provides a kind of predictability that many hit songs have relied on for centuries. Pachelbel embellished this framework with additional voices, creating a lasting acoustic sculpture of serenity and the feeling that “everything is all right.”
