The premiere hub for artistic innovation, exhibition, and education in Haiti's artistic capitol, Jac Operating in the historic Boucard & Co building on Rue St.

The Jacmel Arts Center was established in January 2017 as an inclusive space to support the exhibition, education and production of the arts in Jacmel. It grew out of a collective movement of artists that had been working together under the name FOSAJ since 2003. These artists united together in an effort to reinvent themselves and to breathe new life into the once vibrant arts scene of the city.

Anne, which was severely damaged in the earthquake of 2010, the artists recommitted themselves to restoring the space as a formidable hub of Haitian artistic innovation. By repairing the wounds of the past and coalescing behind a dynamic new vision for the future, the artists began to chart a new path towards rebuilding a reputable and active arts institution. Towards this end, they recruited a new administration with an energized and creative leadership at the top. With the new direction in place and their new collective identity ratified, they began taking the necessary steps to creating the structure needed to put new strategies and programs in place to serve the city's artists with respect, transparency, and heart. They now operate the city's most prestigious art gallery, an active art school, and popular artisan boutique, in addition to many other programs for the city's creative population.

Last week we hosted a crochet fashion show with pieces made by local artists and students that put their creativity and craftsmanship on display! Congratulations on everyone involved for their beautiful creations!

This week our painting students worked on still life studies to develop their foundational skills in expressing shape, color, composition, and more.

We’ve been holding a lot of events at Jacmel Arts Center lately including literary forums, dance and music performances, and special art exhibits all to celebrate our community’s culture and history. It is a challenge to hold these events however when we don’t have our own generator and have to depend on borrowing or renting so we can have electricity. So we are asking our friends and supporters to help us buy a new generator for the center. If we can raise just $800, we’ll be able to purchase a generator that can provide energy for a whole variety of even more events! We’ll also be able to use it to expand our teaching capacities for the arts academy classes.

Our classroom is full for the start of our summer session at SAJ with drawing and painting instructors, Vady Confident and Jeffson Luberisse teaching students the foundations of visual art. We are excited to see these students grow in their artistic skills and develop their own creative voices. Our Jacmel Arts Center team has worked hard to breathe new life into the arts academy at the center, thanks to our General Center Director, Blaise Elie, and Artistic Director, Vady Confident. Earlier this week we welcomed over 50 new students to orientation for our summer session of art classes. These students will be learning from our master artists to develop their skills in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, papier-mache, sculpture, and more.
