We were deeply saddened to learn about the death of dear colleague and friend Boris Marte. WHW first met Boris when he came to Zagreb in the early 2000s, while the Erste foundation was still taking shape. He knew how to support, advise and give space to people. That’s a rare combination and he stayed with us over twenty years, through good and bad times and in various collaborations. It was Boris’ ability to understand that there were no set solutions, and his sensitivity in responding to specific, complex and historically loaded situations that marked him out. He brought tangible curiosity and openness to every meeting. He knew that cultural funding needs to cherish what it finds, rather than dictate what it thinks ought to exist. And probably most importantly, Boris always understood the value of one of the most precious and most underrated ingredients of cultural work: the value of trust in each other and in a shared desire to make something meaningful, both socially and artistically. We will miss him very much.

Happy to invite you to Evenings with WHW Akademija: Lecture by Irfan Hošić TONIGHT at 7 p.m. at Društvo arhitekata Zagreba.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐬𝐧𝐢𝐚-𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐳𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐚

Since the fall of Yugoslavia, Bosnia-Herzegovina has remained caught in a complicated political situation shaped by Serbian/Croatian separatism, Bosnian unitarism, and an unfinished transition from socialism to capitalism and from war to peace. In this context, borders have become a focal point of artistic research, used by artists as an element loaded with meanings such as isolation, division, insecurity, and conflict. This lecture examines works by Lana Čmajčanin, Gordana Anđelić Galić, Lovro Artuković, Maja Bajević, Nermin Duraković, and others.

𝐈𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐬̌𝐢𝐜́ is Associate Professor of art history at the University of Bihać, curator, researcher and founder of the Center for Contemporary Culture KRAK in Bihać, with whom WHW Akademija collaborates for the second time on its program in Bihać.

Dijelimo trailer filma Songs of Hope and Despair Tsaplye Olge Egorove i Dmitryja Vilenskog iz kolektiva Chto Delat International koji gledamo u ponedjeljak 28/9 u 19 sati u MAMA Zagreb!
