Ten Contemporary Croatian female ceramicists
Ceramics begins with resistance. Clay yields to touch, yet resists it. Under pressure it changes shape, with water it softens, and through fire it undergoes an irreversible transformation. Between the imagined form and the finished object lies a space that can never be fully controlled.
Trace of Resistance brings together ten Croatian women artists whose diverse practices reflect the vitality of contemporary ceramics — from functional vessels to autonomous sculpture, from precisely shaped forms to objects created in dialogue with the material itself.
Traces of the hand, irregularities, mineral structures and the unpredictable effects of firing become part of the object’s language.
The Zagreb Design Week theme Friction is embedded in the very process of ceramics: in touch and pressure, material resistance, and the tensions between function and form, tradition and experimentation, craft and art.
At a time of accelerated, standardised production, ceramics insists on time, material and difference.
Each work is a material trace of that negotiation.
