Interview with Silicone Soul 🎙️

1. Silicone Soul has held a special place in the global house music scene for more than two
decades. Looking back, how would you describe the journey from the early days of the
project to where you are today?

It's been quite a ride, that's for sure! There have been some massive highs and some
difficult moments. I'm delighted to be rolling on, and I'm enjoying the music life as much as
ever.

2. Your sound has always been recognized for its deep, emotional, and atmospheric
qualities. How would you describe your musical identity, and what continues to inspire you
when creating music?

I feel it's important to have a strong musical identity, and this comes from deep within. I'm
inspired very much by older and classic production techniques, and I find that record
shopping for music, especially from the 70s and 80s, is very helpful to the creative process.

3. Electronic music has changed significantly over the years. What do you think has evolved
for the better, and what do you miss from the earlier days of the scene?

This subject is understandably a hot topic in club culture. I do miss the times when there was
less focus on the DJ visually, and the most important aspect of the performance was the
music. However, the technology available now is truly out of this world, allowing so much
more creativity while DJing. It has also democratised the scene, making the music and DJing accessible to all.

I'm against AI use in music creation, though, as this can stop talented up-and-coming artists
from being heard. Support your artist friends by buying their music from Bandcamp or paying
to get into their club nights.

4. After so many years of performing around the world, are there any clubs, festivals, or
particular moments from your career that have remained especially memorable?

I was hanging out with an old friend from Derry, in Northern Ireland, at the weekend. I was
reminiscing about dropping a house bootleg of Teenage Kicks by local punk legends, The
Undertones, at a Halloween Party there many years ago. What a moment that was, utter
carnage! These contextual moments are what make DJing special.

5. What can the audience expect from your performance at Project Vojarna – Club Edition?
How would you describe the energy and atmosphere you want to create during your set?

I've been using a hybrid-style DJ setup, with a laptop, turntable, FX pedals and controllers.
So, I'm really looking forward to performing at Project Vojarna. I'm expecting a long, hot
summer night, so let's see what happens musically; it's gonna be fun
