Grape varieties are heritage, especially those indigenous. They are a "tool" for winemakers who make a stylistic wine that fits their current need and cognition. New generation of winemakers, if they retain those variety in their vineyards - they heritage knowledge, skills and variety. Generations of winemakers leave, and the grape variety, if it remains in the vineyard, is transformed from the "tools" into the heritage and eventually turns into either oblivion or part of the identity.
