[O POŽEGI PETKOM] 🏳️ Zastava grada Požege

Svečana zastava na naličju u tri bogato ukrašena medaljona prikazuje likove fra Luke Ibrišimovića, vođe ustanka protiv Turaka i osloboditelja grada 1688. g, svete Terezije Avilske, zaštitnice grada i kipa Presvetog Trojstva, podignutog u središtu grada 1749. g. u spomen na 798 građana koji su umrli od kuge 1739.

S druge strane nalazi se grb grada Požege. Likovno rješenje zastave osmislio je Frane Paro.

The reverse side of the ceremonial flag depicts, within three richly decorated medallions, the figures of Friar Luka Ibrišimović, the leader of the uprising against the Turks and liberator of the city in 1688; Saint Teresa of Avila, the city's patron saint; and the Holy Trinity monument, erected in the city center in 1749 in memory of the 798 citizens who died of the plague in 1739. Other side of flag has official coat of arms of the city of Požega. Flag was created by Frane Paro.

[POŽEŠKI VELIKANI] 📖 Ivan Švear

Ivan Švear (1775. – 1839.) bio je svećenik, učitelj i povjesničar koji je veći dio karijere proveo u Požegi i obližnjim Sesvetama. Njegovo životno djelo, opsežna četverosveščana povijest pod nazivom "Ogledalo Illiriuma", opisuje povijest Hrvata od biblijskog potopa do kraja 18. stoljeća. U skladu s idejama ilirskog pokreta, Švear je u svom radu snažno zastupao tezu o izravnom podrijetlu Slavena od antičkih Ilira.

Ivan Švear (1775–1839) was a priest, teacher, and historian who spent the majority of his career in Požega and nearby Sesvete. His magnum opus, the extensive four-volume history titled "Ogledalo Illiriuma" (Mirror of Illyrium), chronicles the history of Croats from the Biblical Flood to the late 18th century. Aligning with the ideals of the Illyrian Movement, Švear’s work strongly advocated the theory of the direct descent of Slavs from the ancient Illyrians.

[O POŽEGI PETKOM] 🚲 Požežani opljačkani na povratku sa sajma iz Pakraca 1795. godine

Česte mete pljačkaša bili su veći sajmovi na koje su ljudi išli iz udaljenih krajeva poput odlaska na sajam u Pakrac iz Požege. Zapis kaže da su obrtnicima ukradeni i novac i roba: “(...) blizu pravoslavne crkve u Bučju kod spahinske livade nemilo orobili nepoznati zločinci, otevši im ne samo gotove novce, već i svu silu robe.”
[FRIDAY STORYTIME] 🚲 Požega Citizens Robbed on Their Return from the Pakrac Fair in 1795

Large fairs were frequent targets for bandits, as people traveled to them from distant areas, such as the journey from Požega to the fair in Pakrac. Records state that craftsmen were stripped of both their money and their goods: “...near the Orthodox church in Bučje, by the lord’s meadow, unknown criminals mercilessly robbed them, seizing not only their ready cash but also a vast quantity of merchandise.”

[O POŽEGI PETKOM] ⛪️ Kupovina isusovačkog kolegija 1832.

Nakon ukinuća isusovačkog reda (1773.) nekretninama požeških isusovaca upravljala je politička vlast u Požegi (zakladnih dobara). Na javnoj dražbi zgrada kolegije dopala je sa svim okolnim zgradama i zemljištima biskupu Aleksandru Alagoviću za svotu od 8000 forinti. Za zgradu su se zanimali i pakrački vladika i karlovačka metropolitska uprava.

Following the suppression of the Jesuit order in 1773, the real estate of the Požega Jesuits was managed by local political authorities (as foundation assets). At a public auction, the college building, along with all its surrounding buildings and lands, was acquired by Bishop Aleksandar Alagović for the sum of 8,000 forints. The Orthodox Bishop (vladika) of Pakrac and the Metropolitan administration of Karlovac had also expressed interest in the property.

[POŽEŠKI VELIKANI] ⚖️ Grgur Čevapović

Rođen u Bertelovcima kraj Požege, Grgur Čevapović bio je istaknuti franjevac, doktor filozofije i dvostruki provincijal koji je povezao baroknu tradiciju s idejama hrvatskog narodnog preporoda. Njegov bogat znanstveni rad obuhvaća crkvenu povijest, pravo i književnu historiografiju, a posebno se istaknuo priređivanjem Katančićeva prijevoda Biblije za tisak. Čevapovićeva drama "Josip, sin Jakoba patriarke" predstavlja značajan iskorak prema spjevoigri (Singspiel), koristeći narodne napjeve i stihove koji su izravno utjecali na ilirske preporoditelje poput Ljudevita Gaja.

Kao rani zagovornik jedinstvenog pravopisa i ilirizma, bio je ključna figura u kulturnom i prosvjetnom povezivanju Slavonije s ostatkom Hrvatske.
[POŽEGA’S FINEST] ⚖️ Grgur Čevapović

Born in Bertelovci near Požega, Grgur Č. was a prominent Franciscan, Doctor of Philosophy, and two-time Provincial who bridged Baroque traditions with the ideals of the Croatian National Revival. His extensive scholarly work covered church history, law, and literary historiography, most notably highlighted by his preparation of Katančić’s Bible translation for publication. Čevapović's drama "Josip, sin Jakoba patriarke" is a significant precursor to the Croatian Singspiel, incorporating folk melodies and verses that directly influenced Illyrian leaders like Ljudevit Gaj.

As an early advocate for unified orthography and the Illyrian movement, he was a pivotal figure in the cultural and educational integration of Slavonia with the rest of Croatia.
