Students of Jelsa elementary school visited the exhibition Making the Invisible Visible (closed on Sept 15th) and learned more about the concept of no-take zones and leave no trace.

Big thank you to our young visitors and their teachers, as well as Josipa Slaviček for her workshop.

Making the Invisible Visible - final week

The exhibition had a special visit from the Jelsa preschool group! These curious youngsters learned something new about the importance of protecting the biodiversity and created their very own underwater worlds at an art workshop.

Thank you to Jelsa kindergarten and the littles for their cooperartion.🌊

Making the Invisible Visible is part of Co-Vision, large scale EU project which aims to collect Europe's natural heritage in an online database.

In a world conditioned to extract, one of the most radical acts is to do nothing.
No Take Zones are places where this philosophy is made tangible: marine sanctuaries where fishing, drilling, anchoring, and even the casual plundering of curiosity are forbidden. Here, silence is protection. Stillness becomes resistance.

The immeasurable importance of protecting natural biodiversity of a single island, and by extension all of its surroundings, is communicated through the exhibition set in HDD / OTK. You can still view it until Sept 15th as part of Jelsa Art Biennial.

CONVERSATIONS WITH A FISH
Postcard I

Human:
How do you feel the danger?

Fish: I move with the others.
Not behind. Not in front.
No leader, no follower.
We turn as one body —
an agreement made without sound.
We were bodies made of rhythm.
Tight muscle, open sea.
No lone gesture.
No individual glory.
Only the logic of the group.

Jelšani ovo ljeto, kao i mnoga prošla, uglavnom su na kopnu, možda otplivaju turu u predvečerje ili rano jutro, ali malo ih se otiskuje u barkama i brodicama u morske avanture, traženje ribe i lov. Zamjena industrija, snažna turistifikacija i prekomjerni izlov postupno su utišali život zajednice koja je nekad bila neraskidivo povezana s ribolovom. No kako svjedoče mnogi koji se sjećaju: more nije tek puki krajolik – ono je stoljećima bilo prostor svakodnevice, rada i života. Ono se nije samo konzumiralo lijepim razgledničkim pogledima, već se živjelo i proizvodilo, jelo, pilo i spavalo.

*Ova serija razglednica gleda detalje već objavljenih fotografija, pjesama, pisama i recepata i razgovara s ribom, živom ribom koja okružuje otok i pokušava misliti s njegovom zajednicom o održivijim suživotima.
