//SUMMER CONCERT 2024//

From the fluttering butterfly of Nok Him Chan ‘s premiere, to the rustic, romantic palettes of the Grieg concerto, finally blooming into the grandiose, spectacular soundscape embedded in Mahler’s First Symphony; we have had the fortune to indulge in an experience where nature and music blend into one – and even more so, we’ve been blessed to have you with us on this wonderful occasion.

As the fourth Summer Concert draws yet to a close, we’d like to thank all those who came and supported us, in what is a culmination of effort and dedication from many great musicians. We are very grateful to the 100 players who’ve made music with us; while we’d also like to give special thanks to KJ for playing the Grieg concerto with us, and, as ever, for being a wonderful artistic inspiration to us young musicians. Last but not least, we’d love to give a vote of thanks to the work of helpers and venues behind the scenes, without which this concert would not happen!

一切音韻耑始於陳諾謙描繪的翩翩蝴蝶，徐徐揭開格里格鋼琴協奏曲之風情浪漫，最終彌漫成馬勒交響曲中萬紫千紅的音景：本年的音樂會細說著大自然和音樂的共融交集，而我們實在有幸讓諸君見證著我們的這度盛會。

隨著第四場夏季音樂會之終結，我們希望感謝所有蒞臨支持的觀眾，為樂手的付出和耕耘打上完美句號。我們萬分感激云云百位樂團成員一同編織出諸多樂調和回憶；亦藉此感謝黃家正先生與我們合奏格里格的協奏曲，擔當一眾年輕樂手的典範。當然，我們也不忘感激工作人員和場地之慷慨協助，令音樂會得以順利完成！

HKYP 2024 - Meet our Conductors!

Isaac Chan - 陳景行

Isaac Chan is currently reading Music at Clare College of the University of Cambridge, studying conducting with Sian Edwards, and horn with Richard Watkins. He is the principal horn of the flagship Cambridge University Orchestra, and, as of 2024, is Conducting Scholar at the University of Cambridge where he conducts the symphony and wind orchestras, and receives part-time studies at the Royal Academy of Music.

At the HKAPA Junior course, Isaac studied the horn with Homer Lee, and developed an interest in conductor while being mentored by Choi Ho-man. As a recent graduate there, he founded the Chetham’s Camerata and Operetta, and made his debut of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel among other ambitious projects. He has delved heavily into opera conducting, recently conducting a re-conception of Mozart’s Figaro x Don Giovanni, among other premiere works.

Outside of conducting, Isaac is an active collaborative pianist, particularly with strings and voice. He also has an avid interest in musicology, counting 19th-century German music and Romantic opera studies as his chief interests. He was recently awarded top-of-the-class at the Faculty of Music at Cambridge.

Isaac is thrilled to make his Hong Kong debut with Mahler’s First Symphony (in fact his first full symphony!). Isaac looks forward to debuting with Hertfordshire Opera on the horizon with Cosi fan tutte, as well as a touring performance of a reimagined music-drama The Soldier’s Tale, among many other projects.

陳景行現時在劍橋大學修讀音樂，師承指揮Sian Edwards，和圓號家Richard Watkins。除了擔任劍橋大學管弦樂團的圓號首席，他現時獲得劍橋交響樂團和管樂團的指揮席，並於皇家音樂學院兼學指揮。

陳氏曾於香港演藝學院青少年課程學習圓號，師承李少霖先生。透過在大小管弦樂團吹奏的經驗，陳氏對指揮萌生了興趣，繼而向蔡浩文先生初習指揮。在契天音樂學校的兩年間，他創立了一個學生交響和歌劇團隊並組織多項表演，箇中包括德國歌劇《糖果屋》。陳氏尤好歌劇指揮：他在2024年指揮了再新聯想版的《費加羅x唐喬凡尼》（莫扎特），並首演數項歌劇新作品。

除指揮外，陳氏活躍於鋼琴伴奏，尤好弦樂和聲樂曲目。他對音樂學術亦感濃厚興趣，專長於十九世紀德系音樂，以及意法歌劇學；最近更榮獲劍橋音樂系的年級狀元。

陳氏非常期待指揮馬勒的第一交響曲（同時亦是他第一次指揮完整交響曲）。容後，陳氏期待與赫福歌劇團演出莫扎特的《女人皆如此》；以及與聖約翰書院合作，在一系列表演呈現《一個士兵的故事》。

Check out the thrilling programme for our upcoming concert – we are most delighted to have KaJeng Wong join us as the piano soloist for the Grieg piano concerto! An evening of unmissable musical spectacles – save the date!🤙🏻

Amidst the forceful drama of Verdi’s overture, the light-hearted humour of the Lieutenant, the multi-faceted colours of the Ricercar, and the stirring emotions of Rachmaninoff, our Summer Concert 2023 has come to a triumphant close. A big thank you to all the musicians, helpers, and sponsors who made this concert possible. Thanks must also be given to our audience—thank you for your support towards our city’s brilliant musical talents. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

我們的夏季音樂會2023在威爾第強而帶戲劇性的序曲、基傑中尉的詼諧、尋求曲瞬息萬變的音色和拉克曼尼諾夫令人心潮澎湃的心緒之中完美落幕。非常感謝各位樂手的積極參與、工作人員的熱心幫助，以及贊助單位的慷慨解囊，令今次的音樂會得以順利完成。亦衷心感激各位觀眾大力支持優秀的本地年輕音樂家們。希望大家和我們一樣享受今次的音樂會！
