🇪🇸 Pablo Picasso - Gurenica 1937

Picasso created Guernica in his Paris home as a response to the tragic bombing of Guernica, a town in the Basque Country, by N**i Germany and Fascist Italy on April 26, 1937. The grey, black, and white painting portrays the suffering wrought by violence and chaos. Prominently featured in the composition are a gored horse, a bull, screaming women, a dead baby, a dismembered soldier, and flames. It was showcased at the Spanish pavilion during the 1937 Paris International Exposition and toured various locations worldwide to support Spanish war relief efforts.

Last evening, another painting from the same series, ”L‘Empire des lumières“, 1954 was part of the private collection of Mica Ertegun, achieved a staggering USD112 million at Christie’s New York, showcasing the enduring allure of Magritte’s work and the growing appreciation for surrealism in the contemporary art market.

Magritte’s deep exploration of perception significantly influences both art history and the contemporary cultural landscape.

🎞️Mesmerizing artwork by Hong Kong artist Chow Chun Fai. Chow’s solo exhibition “Map of Amnesia,” encompassing works that perpetuate the artist’s practice of portraying Hong Kong’s memories and cinematography, presented are historic locations like the Mahjong House at Portland Street, Man Mo Temple, the Hong Kong Museum of Art and Lin Heung Tea House. Meanwhile, cinema classics like As Tears Go By 旺角卡門, A Moment of Romance 天若有情, Comrades: Almost a Love Story 甜蜜蜜, City War 義膽紅唇, Infernal Affairs 無間道, and The Lucky Guy 行運一條龍†are also featured in the exhibition.
