Sunroom Pottery Studio 日光陶室

Sunroom Pottery Studio 日光陶室 Sunroom Pottery Studio is run by Conrad LI, who was graduated from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver.

The lovely quiet environment of the studio provide students a stress free atmosphere to learn and practise potteries. Conrad LI, b. 1968
Hong Kong
Conrad is a contemporary ceramic artist who was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Canada and now resides permanently in Hong Kong. He graduated from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, and has practiced ceramics in both Canada and Hong

Kong. He specializes in wheel-thrown functional ceramics, and his pottery skills have developed through years of practice, and Conrad continues to work many hours on a daily basis in order to maintain them. Conrad enjoys the solitude of making pots in his own studio, without the need for mass production nor to work under pressure. His studio is located on the island of Peng Chau in Hong Kong, where the stress free and quiet environment and simple lifestyle allow him to work at his own pace, giving him time to conduct research to build on his traditional pottery skills. In turn, the island’s rural culture, and laid back lifestyle provide him with an abundance of inspiration. Conrad enjoys creating unique, functional wares which can be used for display or daily usage and each piece of Conrad’s artwork strives for contemporary appeal, to touch the collectors’ deepest emotions. In recent years, Conrad has focused on creating individual, high-fired stoneware signature pieces, combining beautiful shapes, fabulous colours and detailed hand crafted surfaces, creating everyday objects like jugs, bowls, teapots and pourers. His artworks are both collected by ordinary people, and commissioned by private collectors.

“Ceramic art has a direct and important function in our daily life. We can eat from it, drink from it, cook in it, use it for storage, or just display it to brighten our lives. We are in close contact with it at every moment and by holding a piece of ceramic art we can feel it with our heart, touch it with our passion, and appreciate its beauty, lifting our spirits in the process. The artwork displayed in this exhibition is made for this purpose.” Conrad LI
