Hong Kong Players

Hong Kong Players One of the longest running community theatre groups in Hong Kong. Sharing our passion for theatre.

Since 1844…

The longest running community theatre group in Hong Kong
(although we have been known by other names – see ‘Timeline’ below). A dynamic and vibrant theatre company that endeavours to bring excellent theatre to our audiences. Striving to maintain the spirit of our “ancestors”, Hong Kong Players currently mounts 3 – 4 productions per year, ranging from the classics of Shakespeare to mod

ern drama & comedy. We let our hair down and have fun with our annual Panto, our biggest extravaganza of the year, staged every year since 1961. This rich diversity of shows translates into the best English-language theatre in Hong Kong – we’ll make you laugh, cry and everything in between. History

Our history can be traced back to 1844 – a track record of 164 years! Timeline

1844 – the Hong Kong Amateur Dramatic Society was founded and began its 102-year history.

1946 – became known as Hong Kong Stage Club.

1946 to 1991 – During the next 4-5 decades, after the end of World War II, Stage Club and a group called Garrison Players are theatrically active in Hong Kong. They pass the panto baton between them, sometimes mounting the annual show jointly.

1991 – The 2 societies merge on January 1, 1991, to form Hong Kong Players.
