Li Donglu’s Dreamscape at Alisan Atelier

As part of Alisan Fine Arts’ 45th anniversary programme “Then and Now” 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘝𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘕𝘰𝘸: 𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 at Alisan Atelier runs parallel to 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘈𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘵-𝘎𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴 at our Central gallery. Where the “Then” honours the francophone Chinese masters who forged modernism in post-war Paris, the “Now” gathers four contemporary artists in Paris, Li Donglu, Qi Zhuo, Shi Qi, and Yao Qingmei. Each has created and selected works specifically for this exhibition, transforming inherited materials, images, and ideas within contemporary spatial and conceptual frames to recast lineage as a living engine for the present.

Li Donglu draws on classical Western draftsmanship alongside Chinese pictorial thought, orchestrating light, colour, and precision to open contemplative, cosmological vistas. In his works, Greco-Roman sculptures appear wedged between rocks in sombre landscapes, figures suspended between civilisations. Working in oil paint, he constructs dramatic dreamscapes where nature becomes a theatre for cultural memory and surreal displacement.

T‘ang Haywen, A Chinese Painter in Paris.

Celebrating 45 years of championing Chinese contemporary art, Alisan Fine Arts’ 2026 “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘕𝘰𝘸” programme honours early French-influenced pioneers while spotlighting today’s practices. The Chinese Avant-Garde in Paris anchors the “Then” with 𝐙𝐚𝐨 𝐖𝐨𝐮-𝐊𝐢, 𝐂𝐡𝐮 𝐓𝐞𝐡-𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐧, 𝐓’𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐚𝐲𝐰𝐞𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐧𝐠—Francophone Chinese diaspora masters who fused Chinese cultural roots with post-war Parisian modernism.

Born in China, raised in Vietnam, and later settling in France, T’ang Haywen was shaped by a deeply diverse cultural background. He was known for his small-scale paintings, which are composed of flowing brushstrokes in Chinese ink on paper. With soft splashes of colour across the page, his works form a visual type of poetry.

We are thrilled to announce that 𝐌+ 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐠 has acquired 12 significant works by Ming Fay, a pivotal figure in the Asian American diaspora. This major acquisition features his iconic large-scale fruit sculptures, 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘺 3, 𝘚𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘨𝘶𝘮 𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘥, and 𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘗𝘦𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘳. Also some sculptures of plant roots and stems like 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘶𝘴 and 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘥𝘢 are also included. Notably, His works on paper also enter M+’s collection, providing a holistic view of the conceptual draftsmanship behind his three-dimensional masterpieces.

Working with Ming Fay since the 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟎𝐬, Alisan Fine Arts has been dedicated to the promotion of his practice, facilitating the entry of his work into prestigious global collections. This acquisition by M+ further secures his position within the contemporary art canon.

Fay was celebrated for his sophisticated fusion of Eastern philosophy and Western contemporary sculpture, utilizing the garden as a symbol of utopia to explore the profound bond between humanity and nature. By elevating botanical forms into monumental bronze and mixed-media installations, he bridged cultural boundaries and transformed the natural world into a site of deep cultural inquiry. His presence in world-class institutions, including the Whitney Museum and M+, cements his status as a master sculptor who redefined the relationship between naturalism and the modern experience.

Final days to experience the vigorous world of Fang Zhaoling. 🖌️

As we celebrate our 45th anniversary, ”𝘗𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘢ï𝘷𝘦𝘵é: 𝘍𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘡𝘩𝘢𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨’𝘴 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺“ enters its final week. A student of masters Zhang Daqian and Zhao Shao-ang, Fang Zhaoling (1914–2006) developed her techniques in painting under the influences of both West and East.

In 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴, we find her signature spirit—a personality that is at once incredibly strong yet remarkably gentle. 🌊

Hopping onto her boats, let’s travel through her unique world of art one last time this week.

Don‘t miss the chance to see these rare works, many being shown for the first time, before the exhibition closes.

We are delighted to announce that artist 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗛𝘂𝗶 is representing Hong Kong at the 𝟲𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲, opening today.

Hui’s work is now on show at the exhibition titled 𝙁𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙖: 𝙃𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙆𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙑𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙚, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

As part of the Biennale’s overarching theme 𝘐𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘒𝘦𝘺𝘴, which turns the spotlight toward intimate bodily encounters and the subtleties of everyday life – Hui’s creative philosophy finds a natural home. Her practice revolves around transforming overlooked daily objects, from faded window frames to plastic bags, into powerful reflections of the urban landscapes inhabited in Hong Kong. For this exhibition, Hui is presenting a new piece, 𝘐 𝘞𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘖𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘸 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘠𝘰𝘶, an iron window crafted in collaboration with traditional blacksmiths that pays homage to Hong Kong’s craftsmanship.

We are proud to have been able to work with Hui since 2017.

We are thrilled to announce that internationally celebrated artist 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 is participating in the 𝟲𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲 as part of 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 exhibition ‘𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮’.

A leading figure in contemporary calligraphy, Wang is celebrated for his expansive abstract compositions, which he terms “calligraphic paintings” that blend traditional Chinese techniques with modernist sensibilities. Wang’s dynamic, full-bleed abstractions is now on show as a centerpiece of the Pavilion’s diverse multimedia presentation, which places Eastern aesthetics in dialogue with the Biennale’s broader theme, 𝘐𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘒𝘦𝘺𝘴.

Alisan Fine Arts has been working with Wang since 2015, and we are honoured to see his work presented on one of the world’s most distinguished international stages in this momentous milestone.

To explore Walasse Ting in the exhibition: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘈𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘵-𝘎𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴

Celebrating 45 years of championing Chinese contemporary art, Alisan Fine Arts’ 2026 “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘕𝘰𝘸” programme honours early French-influenced pioneers while spotlighting today’s practices. Before settling in New York, Walasse Ting spent formative years in Paris. There, the uninhibited creative spirit and bold palettes of the CoBrA artists resonated deeply with Ting’s own personality. Influenced by this movement, his work began to thrive with a distinct, childlike enthusiasm. In this exhibition, a rare black and white canvas from 1959 alongside those vibrant grouping of birds, horses and women images exhibited for the first time.
