✨ Media Art 21 comes to Rhizome World for a new symposium on the platform’s three key themes: The Posthuman, Ecologies, and the Commons. In Partnership with Onassis ONX and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe , this convening features artists and scholars who offer critical reflections on contemporary art practice and shifting paradigms in media art in particular.

I loved being back to Hong Kong❤️, where I spent a lot of time working with amazing institutions, intelligent minds, a place full with special memories over the past 10 years. It was so lovely to be reunited with dear friends, my wonderful gallerists and supporters of my works. Although it has been a really short trip, I feel supercharged!🥰

Shadows stretch in spectral lines, in desolation's embrace, time resigns
29 NOV 2023 – 3 Feb 2024

The exhibition showcases a live machine-learning simulation as well as paintings based on imagery that was generated during the process of training the artificial intelligence. AI: the modern alchemy, including glitch landscapes, magic spells, and special visual effects – the works on display continuously explore the aesthetics of digital assets.

How can we cope with the increasingly unpredictable realities of daily life? Join the Sigg Prize 2023 finalists Jes Fan, Miao Ying, Wang Tuo, Xie Nanxing, Trevor Yeung, and Yu Ji as they discuss how they explore the nuances of belonging, vulnerability, and resilience of recent years, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

🏆Established by M+, the Sigg Prize recognises artists born or working in the Greater China region and its diasporas, based on their oeuvre over the past two years. The finalists are invited to present their works in the Sigg Prize 2023 exhibition at M+, opening on 23 September, and a winner selected by the jury will be announced in early 2024.

🗣️This talk will be held in English and Mandarin, moderated by exhibition curator Isabella Tam and assistant curator Ariadne Long. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin.

Congratulations to the six shortlisted artists in the second edition of the Sigg Prize.🎉

The six selected artists are Jes Fan, Miao Ying (.ying.studio), Wang Tuo, Xie Nanxing, Trevor Yeung, and Yu Ji. Established in 2018, the Sigg Prize recognises outstanding artistic practice in the Greater China region. The shortlisted artists will be invited to present their works from the past three years in the Sigg Prize 2023 exhibition, to be held at the Main Hall Gallery at M+ from 23 September 2023. The exhibition will present a wide range of mediums including painting, sculpture, video, and installation, through which the artists demonstrate their unique visions and approaches to current urgent contemporary issues. I am really honored to be final-listed for Sigg Prize 2023 together with 5 other talented artists! The Sigg Prize, a program established by M+ in 2018, was formerly the Chinese Contemporary Art Award (CCAA), founded by Dr Uli Sigg in China in 1998.

M+, Asia’s first global museum of contemporary visual culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong, is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

I am currently working as an artist in residence and I am extremely honored to be with such a talented assembly of fellows that includes myself, Anri Sala, Legacy Russell, Allison Katz, Rose Salane, Formafantasma and Sissel Toolas! The visit to Pompeii last year has been overwhelmingly rich as an experience, and I am so grateful to be a part of it Inspired by the graffiti and frescos in Pompeii, I am working on machine learning generated text and graphics.
