He came, he saw, he conquered. Maestro .greg swooped into HK fresh from his triumph, got right to work with three workshops and a lecture at , gave excellent radio with at .hk, then ended his trip mingling with our lovely donors and singers at our fundraising dinner.

Off he goes to Helsinki for his next show. We will be missing this absolute king until he returns for L’Incoronazione di Poppea! 👑

*Introducing Greg Eldridge: Award-winning Director of Opera.*

With a career spanning over 80 productions across 14 countries, Greg Eldridge brings a wealth of international experience to our upcoming series. Formerly a Professor of Stage Directing at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, his portfolio includes work at some of the world’s most renowned houses.

His directing and staging credits include Teatro alla Scala Milan, The Royal Opera London, Teatro Real Madrid, Houston Grand Opera, and LA Opera. Furthermore, his expertise has reached national opera companies across the globe, from Norway and Australia to Iceland, Israel, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. In January 2027, he will be directing Opera Box’s production of Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea.

We are pleased to welcome him to the University of Hong Kong to share his insights into the evolution of operatic performance.

As part of the Distinguished Lecture Series for the 2025-26 Semester 2, Opera Box is proud to partner with the University of Hong Kong to present an evening with Greg Eldridge. An award-winning Director of Opera and former Professor of Stage Directing, Eldridge will trace the fascinating evolution of dramatic theory within the opera house.

*Step onstage and experience Opera as a Bloodsport.*

Opera Box is proud to collaborate with the University of Hong Kong for an exclusive lecture and workshop series this semester. Led by Greg Eldridge—award-winning Director of Opera and former Professor of Stage Directing—this series offers a deep dive into the evolution of dramatic performance.

From the rigid artifice of the Pre-Enlightenment to the visceral demands of the Modern Era, participants will explore what it truly means to direct and “act” in one of the world’s most demanding art forms.

On Valentine’s Day, O!Blox broke the “hush-hush” rules of classical music for Hong Kong’s (Asia’s!) first baby Schubertiade. It was more a liedermorgen than a liederabend, but it had all the sparkle and coziness of a 19th century salon…albeit with much younger participants.

Music is a universal language, and babies are the most honest critics we have. Watching them respond to the rhythm in such a nurturing, relaxed environment felt like exactly how such music was meant to be shared. 🌹
