Promoting young and established contemporary artists regardless of nationality.

Established in 2008, Leo Gallery is respected for being a progressive force in nurturing young and representing established contemporary artists regardless of nationality. Our main gallery is situated in Ferguson Lane, Shanghai and the branch is in Tin Hau, Hong Kong. Apart from our regular exhibition programs that promote Asian and European art, Leo Gallery has also been working on a number of public art projects with commercial and educational entities. Art fairs participated include Art Basel Hong Kong, West Bund Shanghai, ART021, Photofairs Shanghai, Art Stage Singapore, Art Shenzhen, Art Beijing among others.

Leo Gallery is pleased to announce that German artist Christoph Schellberg has begun a two-month residency at Leo Gallery Residency.

Christoph Schellberg was born in 1973 in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he currently lives and works. He studied at the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts from 1995 to 1997, and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1997 to 2001 under Jan Dibbets. His practice revolves around colour, line, space, and light. He regards painting as a solitary and sustained medium, describing the intuitive yet restrained improvisation in his work as ”jazz, not punk.“ His works are held in significant public and private collections, including the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, Museum Brandhorst in Munich, and the Deutsche Bank Collection.

During the residency, Schellberg will continue his painting practice at Leo Gallery Residency, responding to the new space, light, and urban context. He will develop his canvases through a daily and open-ended working process, engaging in dialogue with Shanghai‘s art ecosystem along the way.

The artist Liu Zhengyong‘s solo exhibition My Mont Sainte-Victoire has grandly opened on Sepetmber 5th at Leo Gallery Shanghai new space.The exhibition brings together multiple series of the artist’s painting practice from recent years, including large-scale body paintings, portraits, and abstract works.

The curator Zhu Zhu chose My Mont Sainte-Victoire as the exhibition title, highlighting that dimension of nature, landscape, and texture in Liu Zhengyong‘s shaping of the body. The exhibition is on view till October 18, 2026.
