WKM Gallery Founded by William Kayne Mukai in 2023, WKM Gallery is a vibrant and innovative art space in Hong Kong.

With a unique background combining French and Japanese heritage, William is committed to fostering cultural connections and promoting artists globally. The gallery serves as a platform for both emerging and established artists, encouraging creativity and cultural exchange. Initially focusing on connecting Japan and Hong Kong, William now aims to weave art from around the world into the dynamic Hong Kong art scene. The design of the gallery seamlessly merges Japanese architectural elements with the industrial ambiance of Wong Chuk Hang. Embracing the concept of "ma" (間), which represents the space between elements and serves as a threshold between viewer and art, the gallery aspires to provide viewers with a richer aesthetic experience and a personal connection with the artwork.

We are delighted to welcome French artist Jean Vincent Simonet to Hong Kong for a three-week artist residency at WKM, from Friday 11 to Wednesday 30 September.

Based between Paris and Zurich, Simonet works between photography, painting, and digital media. Drawn to technological systems and critically aware of their accelerating pace, he examines how images are produced, transformed and circulated. Obsolete technologies, failed utopias, and environmental mutation are recurring themes in his work; processes such as chemical alteration, overexposure, mechanical stress, and digital manipulation mirror these themes.

The manipulation is not a fixed technique, it is a variable of the work itself. Because he alters the process as he goes, the outcome changes from piece to piece, so each work is an original and unique.

The residency is a period of research and production that happens both inside the gallery and out in the city, and the results will be presented this November in his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong.

Now on view at WKM Gallery, My tender passion, tender patience presents a wide-ranging overview of Soh Souen’s ongoing enquiries into life through painting, performance and video.

At the centre of the exhibition is Again and again, an evolving series of pastel works created during moments of respite and anguish. The works emerge through an attentiveness to touch, as the artist’s skin meets the ‘skin’ of the painted surface, painting becomes a reciprocal exchange rather than a one-directional act.

The exhibition also includes two paintings from A Whole Painting Filled With Holes, whose pointillist close-ups of bodily fragments appear like vivid yet incomplete memories. Alongside these works, Eggsercise and N: 20.04.26-04.05.26 extend Souen’s exploration of vulnerability, protection, memory and human connection through moving image.

Born in Fukuoka in 1995, Soh Souen creates works that explore human nature through phenomena closely connected to life, such as breathing, bellybuttons, and eggs. Souen has presented paintings, videos, installations, workshops, and performances in Japan and internationally.

Major exhibitions include Your Body is the Shoreline at √K Contemporary, Tokyo; Choreographies of the Everyday, MOT’s 30th Anniversary Exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo; and FATHOM — Shiota Chiharu, Kanazawa Sumi, Soh Souen at Kyoto Seika University Gallery Terra-S. In 2026, Souen created Air Condition, a solo exhibition on the theme of breathing, presented at Kumamoto City Museum of Contemporary Art.

In 2024, Souen’s installation Bellybutton and Breathing was acquired by the Fukuoka Art Museum.

Before ‘BETWEEN’ opened at WKM Gallery, Iori Nagashima developed the new body of work during his residency at SIDE SPACE. The Open Studio on 7 May invited visitors into his working environment, where the works were still taking shape in real time. The exhibition’s paintings continue that sense of encounter, moving between everyday objects, urban fragments, photographs, videos, visual memory, and the layered surfaces of Hong Kong.

A journey through five decades of urban transformation. Greg Girard’s first-ever career survey is currently on view at The Polygon Gallery in Vancouver. Having presented his work in Hong Kong earlier this year, it is a privilege to see his tenacious documentation brought together in this comprehensive retrospective, tracing his lens across cities and decades from the early 1970s to the present day. The exhibition presents a cinematic and intimate record of places caught between eras; a masterful tribute to an artist who has continually captured the vulnerability and vitality of the modern metropolis.

In Iori Nagashima’s ‘BETWEEN’, everyday objects and urban fragments become quietly charged with presence. Clothes, shoes, a clock, a dragon fruit, ladders and other familiar forms appear as signs of use, memory, and a specific time. Created following the artist’s extended residency at SIDE SPACE, the exhibition reflects on how relationships become newly visible when one’s environment changes.

Now open at WKM Gallery, Iori Nagashima’s BETWEEN presents new oil paintings developed following the artist’s extended residency at SIDE SPACE. The exhibition brings together still lifes and figure paintings shaped by motifs and subjects encountered in Hong Kong and its local community. Through quiet scenes, layered surfaces, and everyday objects, BETWEEN considers the space between presence and absence, subject and viewer, observation and connection. On view until 29 August 2026.

Born in Osaka in 1997 and based in Tokyo, Iori Nagashima received his BA in Oil Painting from Musashino Art University in 2020. His practice observes the unconscious beauty hidden within everyday life, drawing out moments of stillness from the bustle of the city and the routines of those around him. Working through oil painting while also drawing on photography, video, and personal visual memory, he reconstructs fragments of daily life into images that seem to hover between the ordinary and the extraordinary, the present and the past.

Opening this Saturday, BETWEEN, is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong and presents new oil paintings developed following his extended residency at SIDE SPACE. These Open Studio photographs offer a glimpse of the works while they were still taking shape before moving into the gallery.

BETWEEN opens on 6 June 2026, with an Opening Reception from 4 - 8 pm in the presence of the artist.

From June 6 to August 29, 2026, WKM Gallery is delighted to present Japanese artist Iori Nagashima’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, BETWEEN. Known for his soft, subdued oil paintings of everyday objects and daily routines, the exhibition will showcase the evolution of Nagashima’s paintings following his extended residency at SIDE SPACE. The series of new works revolves around motifs and subjects he encountered in the city and local community, reflecting his immersion into the complex layers of Hong Kong.
