Earthquake Relief Concert - presenting Music from the Arab/Syrian and Turkish Traditions

Syria and Turkey, the two countries most affected by the earthquake on 6 Feb 2023, are homes to rich musical heritages, including regional folksongs and art music from shared roots in the Ottoman Empire. The Nur Collective & friends will lead you on a journey at the Hong Kong Fringe Club to discover some of most beloved classics in these traditions, performed on common instruments in the region such as the lutes oud, bağlama, the zither qanun, and the drums darbuka and riqq.

*The concert is free-seating for all ticket types.
*Net proceeds from ticket sales will go to non-profit organisations taking part in front line rescue and relief efforts in both countries.

Khaleeji music from the Gulf region is an infectious music that combines ecstatic Arabic melodies with the swinging rhythms that originate from Africa.

We, together with our guest artist Dickson Cheung, will be doing a small set of Khaleeji & other Arabic music this Sunday afternoon in the outdoor area of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, as part of the "International Cultural Ethnic Performances" Festival. Come discover this uniquely groovy music under the autumn sun!
