‘Luis Xertu: Halfway Across the Rubicon’ is now officially open!

As Rotterdam-based artist Luis Xertu’s (Luis Xertu) first solo presentation with the gallery and in Asia, the new body of paintings unfolds a tender, sun-drenched world where the fleetingness of love, beauty, and youth lingers like the last light of summer.

He traces delicate passages of intimacy within and beyond friendship, attending to a bittersweet ambivalence shaped by quiet tensions, hidden desires, and unspoken affections that surface as both excess and residue through the fissures of the grammar of social life.

Throwback to April when Luis Xertu (Luis Xertu) is featured in L’Officiel Hong Kong (L’OFFICIEL HONG KONG), in the article ‘RAWNESS IN ART’ by Jaz Kong (Jaz).

‘As the organic elements (in Xertu’s work) transform over time, they unsettle the notion of ‘perfection.’ In Xertu’s work, time is itself a medium. ‘It is temporality, together with its passage, that gives rise to a state of nostalgia.’ Luis recalls his previous experiences in theatres, where no two acts were ever identical. ‘It is precisely this unrepeatable difference that makes time inseparable from loss.’

[Dew Kim - Italian Pavilion at the 16th Gwangju Biennale]

PODIUM is delighted to share that Dew Kim’s (Dew Kim) ‘Legion, Nowhere Whole’ (2026) is currently on view at the Italian Pavilion at the 16th Gwangju Biennale (재단법인 광주비엔날레 Gwangju Biennale Foundation). This iteration, themed ‘The Look is A Li(k)e’, is curated by Irene Campolmi (Irene Campolmi), produced by Valentia Buzzi (Valentina Buzzi | 발렌티나) and organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul (주한이탈리아문화원 🇮🇹🇰🇷 IIC Seoul).

In Legion, Nowhere Whole (2026), Dew Kim extends his investigation of the body as a site of resistance within contemporary systems of surveillance, digital control, and normative power. Echoing a Roman maxim, the title evokes a state of total dismemberment in which no part remains intact. It alludes to the collective experience of self-fragmentation produced by the proliferation of identities across social media and algorithmic networks, where selves are reduced to data, disassembled, and commodified for profit under the logic of capitalism.

Examining how identity and desire are disciplined, shaped, and consumed under technological, patriarchal, and gendered regimes of surveillance, Kim suggests that within such structures resistance lies not in escape but in dissolution into untraceable forms. The work takes the form of an anti-monument: a disembodied figure scattered into fragments whose original configuration appears impossible to reconstruct, transforming mechanisms of control into gestures of self-determination. Rather than depicting passive submission, the work reclaims disobedience as a deliberate aesthetic and political act, proposing resistance through subversion rather than evasion.

[Luis Xertu: Halfway Across the Rubicon]

PODIUM is proud to present ‘Halfway Across the Rubicon’, Rotterdam-based artist Luis Xertu’s (Luis Xertu) first solo presentation with the gallery and in Asia.

The exhibition title draws on the small river in north-eastern Italy that once marked a decisive boundary in the late Roman Republic, and reimagines it as a threshold suspended between becoming and arrival. It conjures the fragile interval in which intimacy has already set itself in motion, yet has not fully revealed its shape—a moment when feeling gathers quietly, lingering at the edge of expression.

At the same time, it suggests an emotional point of no return: once desire, attachment, or tenderness have crossed so far, there is no simple way back to the state before they emerged. The title thus holds tension and surrender in the same breath, reflecting Xertu’s interest in those charged passages where love moves from the barely perceived to the irrevocably felt.

PODIUM is pleased to invite you to Min-Jia’s (皿家 Min-Jia) Open Studio, taking place concurrently with Berlin Art Week 2026—

The presentation offers a first look at the artist‘s newly created shadow puppets—their distinctivce practice built upon an apprenticeship in Shaanxi Huaxian shadow puppetry under master Wang Tianwen. Crafted from vellum, a medium that oscillates between flesh and objecthood, Min-Jia’s puppets sample and remix traditional techniques, materials, and ornamental forms across cultures, probing the myths through which origin and identity are constructed.

Min-Jia‘s (b. 2001, lives and works in Berlin) practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and writing. Their work reimagines the body as a site of transformation, continually remade by the frictions between desires, social constructions, and physical limitations. Min-Jia’s recent exhibitions include PODIUM, Hong Kong (2025); Bernheim, London & Zürich (2025); James Fuentes Gallery, New York (2024); Franz Kaka, Toronto (2024); and X Museum, Beijing (2023). Their works are held in the collection of the Royal Bank of Canada.

[Dew Kim - The 13th Busan Biennale]

PODIUM is proud to share that Dew Kim’s (Dew Kim) site-specific installation The Stage – After God (2026) is currently on view at the 13th Busan Biennale (부산비엔날레조직위원회). This iteration is co-curated by artistic directors Amal Khalaf (Amal Khalaf) and Evelyn Simons (Evelyn Simons).

Dew Kim transforms the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan and the former Busan Nam High School into a single, three-act pilgrimage. Across these linked spaces, the work traces how marginalised bodies absorb the costs of blind faith, dogmatic idolatry, and desire; and what persists once objects of worship have vanished and no clear point of orientation remains. Here, Kim choreographs a passage through absence: from the sacrifice of an offering, through an empty centre, to the emergence of a new order.

Act 1: The Stage of Blood – The Aesthetics of Sacrifice (MoCA Busan)

An altar-like stage holds a cross-shaped microphone stand and is clad in latex bas-reliefs bearing the silhouettes of q***r and shamanic figures. As a pipe organ “exhales,” the latex surface compresses, revealing fossil-like imprints of these bodies. The surrounding emptiness and suspension evoke ritual tension, suggesting that such violence continues to reverberate quietly through everyday life—woven into gestures that still depend on the kneeling of some to confirm the power of others.

Bringing together three Korean women artists from distinct generations, the exhibition explores the meaning of the objects, words, and events they encounter in the realities they have lived. Omyo Cho invites into the garden unknown life forms that seem to resemble nature and parts of the body yet remain strangely unfamiliar. With the curves of vines, the glimmer of dew, and the strength of roots, these beings crash-land here and coexist with nature. As if extracted from a future yet to arrive, the slowly seep into the climate and landscape of the present. In doing so, they imbue this familiar place with a sudden sense of the unfamiliar.

Seize the last chance to visit our exhibition — “Shimon Kamada: Phantom(‘s) Presence” — before it closes this Saturday, 29 August!

Drawing from his photo archives that span his childhood and teenage years in his hometown in Japan, Rotterdam-based artist Shimon Kamada (Shimon Kamada) conjures realms where these images drift, overlap, and intertwine like fragmented memories.

From hometown streets and domestic settings to scenes of natural sublimity and surreal dreamscapes; the artist bathes each composition in skewed light, melancholic shadows, and psychological tension to render a series of enigmatic narratives, revealing the fragile and elusive nature of remembrance.
