The current exhibition “No Archives” is a continuation of the manga “Nobody in Walled City”, expanding its world through paintings, character studies, and imagined scenes that did not appear in the original book. The exhibition takes place across two floors at Parallel Space in Sham Shui Po, presenting previously unseen works including character portraits drawing, large-scale acrylic paintings, capturing moments of stillness and a wax sculpture of a frozen city market scene, jointly produced by local candle brand BeCandle and design team Mososisi. The exhibition also features the original drafts, color drafts, sketches, discarded drafts and concept art, inviting viewers to enter the visual universe built by Rex Koo.
The story of “Nobody in Walled City” is set in Hong Kong during the Ice Age. The city has degenerated into ruins, the population has plummeted, and everything is covered in snow. To survive the extreme cold, humans grown into a species covered with furry hair, simplified thinking and consciousness abilities, they spent the day doing nothing. In contrast, cats, longtime companions of humans, have evolved in the opposite direction, becoming larger and more intelligent species. As roles blur between humans and cats, basic survival tasks such as clothing, food, shelter, and transportation become shared challenges in a world without clear boundaries.
