“PSYCHO: Identity Alienation Shadow Duality” is currently on view at Sotheby’s Maison in Hong Kong (Landmark Chater, Central) until 27 September.

The exhibition brings together modern and contemporary works, combining exceptional loans from private collections with major highlights from Sotheby’s Modern & Contemporary Art Evening and Day Auctions. Inspired by the psychological themes of cinema and literature, it explores the turbulent forces of obsession, desire, vanity, and fear, uncovering a darker, more unstable reality beneath outward appearances.

Featured artists include Mark Rothko, Yosh*tomo Nara, Yayoi Kusama, George Condo, and Matthew Wong, among others. Also on display are rare volumes, notably a first edition of Bret Easton Ellis’s “American Psycho”.

Benjamin Grosvenor returns to Hong Kong this September for two highly anticipated performances with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta 香港小交響樂團: a Solo Recital tomorrow (9 September), followed by Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 this Saturday (12 September), conducted by Holly Choe.

The British pianist brings both the intimate intensity of the recital stage and the grand scale of a major Romantic concerto. For Choe, the 12 September concert marks her Hong Kong debut, her first collaboration with the Sinfonietta, and her first partnership with Grosvenor.

“Collaboration in Collision” is now on view at the Hong Kong Arts Centre through 20 September. This flagship exhibition turns the entire building into a dynamic, interactive space, with works ranging across ceramics, installation, digital media, projection and recycled materials.

Curated by Janet Fong, the show pairs seven artists and collectives from Hong Kong, mainland China, Japan, South Korea and beyond, into four creative dialogues: Fang Lijun’s marine-debris installations co-created with the public, Kurt Chan Yuk-keung and Shiro Matsui’s cosmic dialogues in ceramics and neon, Raymond Fung Wing-kee and Picture Rhythm Studios’ immersive urban narratives, and Juri Hwang & Andreas Kratky’s reflections on memory, technology and belonging.

Built around the intertwined ideas of space, creative collision and resulting collaboration, the exhibition invites visitors not only to view but also to engage with the art.

Internationally renowned recorder virtuoso Stefan Temmingh returns to partner with Hong Kong Sinfonietta for two outstanding concerts at Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall.

This Thursday (27 August), he is joined by harpsichordist Sebastian Wienand in “Bach’s Legacy”. Then, on Saturday (29 August), Temmingh takes the stage as soloist under the baton of Music Director Emeritus Yip Wing-sie in “Stefan Temmingh Plays Vivaldi & Moonchild’s Dream”.

Before these performances, we had the opportunity to interview the two artists about their shared musical journey and the compelling programmes they will present to Hong Kong audiences.

The Third Hong Kong International Conducting Competition has unveiled the 16 rising stars shortlisted to join the competition after a fiercely competitive preliminary selection round involving 215 applications received from 38 countries and regions.

Organised by the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and judged by a distinguished international panel co-chaired by Yip Wing-sie and Christoph Po**en, these talented young conductors (aged 35 or under) from China, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Czechia, Greece, Australia and Colombia will take the stage at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall in late January 2027, battling through three intense rounds.

The first round on 27 January sees the 16 candidates tackle Stravinsky’s sparkling “Dumbarton Oaks” chamber concerto paired with one overture by Mozart or Rossini (by draw). The Semi-Finals on 28 and 29 January narrow the field to a maximum of eight, who will conduct a symphony by Brahms, Mendelssohn or Schumann (by draw) and partner with pianist Rachel Cheung in the finale of Schumann’s Piano Concerto.

The drama peaks in the Finals on 31 January, when a maximum of three finalists will conduct the world première of Daniel Lo’s “Endless Rhythm”, Beethoven’s “Fidelio” Overture, a chosen work by Bartók, Richard Strauss or Stravinsky, and deliver a short introductory presentation to the audience.

“Dear You” is a Chinese family drama film directed and co-written by Lan Hongchun, released in Hong Kong theatres on June 18, 2026.

At its heart, “Dear You” is a deeply moving tribute to the Chaoshan (Teochew) people and the broader Chinese diaspora. Though not based on a single true story, the film draws richly from real-life experiences of overseas Chinese migrants, incorporating authentic details from qiaopi – the personal letters sent home by relatives abroad that carried not only money, but also news and enduring affection across vast distances.

Jon Henri Ferrer is a Filipino dance artist, choreographer, and educator based in Hong Kong. He began at the Philippine High School for the Arts before earning a full scholarship to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), where he graduated in 2025 with First Class Honours in Contemporary Dance.

Ferrer has trained intensively with international creators including Dam Van Huynh, Li Yongjing, Leila McMillan, Jarek Cemerek, and Ema Yuasa. He has studied repertoires by renowned choreographers such as Hofesh Shechter, Crystal Pite, Akram Khan, Johan Inger, and Ultima Vez, across Italy and Germany. His versatile career bridges concert dance and commercial work, with performances for Hong Kong artists and a standout appearance in Coldplay’s opening show alongside Marf Yau at Kai Tak Stadium.

In 2025, he joined the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC 城市當代舞蹈團), performing works by William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, and Sang Jijia. Since 2023, he has also been a part-time faculty member at Shift Dance, mentoring and inspiring a new generation of dancers.

As part of CCDC’s 2026–27 season, Ferrer will perform in the upcoming production “Laap3 Laap3 Ling3 Series: Like Summer Flowers”, scheduled from 31 July to 2 August at Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre. More details on https://cultureplus.asia/event/laap3-laap3-ling3-series-like-summer-flowers/.

Perched on a historic headland overlooking the Lei Yue Mun Pass in Shau Kei Wan on Hong Kong Island, the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence (MWRCD) is the city’s premier military museum.

Originally opened in 2000 as the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence, it underwent major renovations and was officially renamed and relaunched on 3 September 2024. Spanning 34,200 square metres, the museum encompasses a permanent exhibition with 11 indoor galleries, a thematic exhibition currently “Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance in Guangdong and Hong Kong”, and the Lyemun Fort Historical Trail featuring 24 checkpoints.

As part of the Chinese Culture Festival, the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre presents "The Code of the Dynasty", a critically acclaimed stage drama making its Hong Kong debut at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 3 to 5 July.

Adapted from Ye Wenbiao’s popular novel, the production is set in the Northern Song Dynasty and draws rich visual inspiration from the iconic painting “Along the River During the Qingming Festival”. The story follows protagonist Zhao Buyou as he becomes entangled in a series of mysterious cases, gradually exposing the hidden conflicts, intrigues, and conspiracies.
