This July, four artists from the world-renowned choir 𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐄 (UK) return to Hong Kong to share the stage with NOĒMA and the eight 𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗔 Masterclass Fellows. Together, we will perform one of the absolute pinnacles of 20th-century a ca****la choral music: Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir. The programme will also feature great works by Byrd, Finzi, Antognini, Whitacre, Adrian Wong, among others.

4月14至16日，場域特定演出 #兩忘詠 繼續於大館賽馬會立方及F倉展室上演。觀眾將先後進入兩個空間設計迴異的場地裡感受聲音與裝置的交織。

💬 Drawing inspiration from William Blake’s poetry, “Songs of Being” constructs a sonic and spatial counterpoint through the intervention of choral performance, stage installations, and dynamic lighting. While “Innocence” chants an unattainable harmony in the JC Cube, “Experience” simultaneously executes a mechanical deconstruction in F Hall.

#兩忘詠 公演中──表演裡的兩個篇章：「天真」及「經驗」各有7首全新譜寫的當代樂曲，互相映照和對比，回應詩作「一體兩面」的構想。片中的是「經驗」裡旋律和唱腔較激昂的〈虎〉；而與之對應的，是「天真」裡溫柔安靜的〈羔羊〉，呈現截然不同的氛圍。14首新作，等你前來感受，嘗試尋找兩邊的連結與共鳴。

is now on stage - The work features 14 new contemporary music compositions split between two chapters: “Innocence” and “Experience”. Each piece mirrors or contrasts another, reflecting the dual-faceted structure.

The intensiveness and fierceness of ‘The Tyger’ from “Experience” in this video is the opposite of the gentle and tranquil tone of ‘The Lamb’ from “Innocence”. Come and try to discover the linkages in between!

光影流動，人聲迴盪；《兩忘詠》讓兩百多年前的詩句，照見當下。所謂「天真」與「經驗」，不再只是文字，而是可以步入的場景。這些關於天真、世故與自處的叩問，終將回歸到每個人心中。《兩忘詠》結合當代音樂、合唱、多媒體，帶來場域特定演出。演出於大館兩個截然不同的場地進行，一個是當代風的賽馬會立方，一個是活化古蹟F倉，塑造一體兩面的觀賞體驗。

𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 mirrors the 200-year-old poetry with the present. Here, “Innocence” and “Experience” are not just words, but scenes to step into and experience. The reflections and questions ultimately return to resonate within us.

Set across two venues at Tai Kwun—the modern JC Cube and the revitalised F Hall— 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 creates a dual-faceted experience that fuses contemporary music, chorus and multimedia.

We can’t wait for the show premiere tomorrow! Please pay attention to the following remarks to fully enjoy the performance:

👉🏼 觀眾務請準時入場，遲到及中途離座者或不獲安排入場。Please be punctual, as latecomers or those who leave during the performance may not be readmitted.

👉🏼 演出將於大館的賽馬會立方及F倉展室進行。觀眾需按指示先後到訪這兩個場地欣賞演出。The performance will take place at JC Cube and F Hall. Audience members will be required to visit both venues in sequence to experience the full performance.

👉🏼 請先到位於大館監獄操場的節目前台進行抽籤，決定個人觀賞次序。Please first proceed to the front desk, located at the Prison Yard for admission. This will also determine your viewing order (i.e., which venue you will visit first).

👉🏼 演出全長將1小時15分鐘，包括一節15分鐘的轉場時間。觀眾需於轉場期間到達另一個場地。The experience is approximately 75 minutes, which includes a 15-minute transition period for you to move between venues. Please arrive at the second venue before this transition period ends.

// 1789年，工業革命席捲英國，詩人威廉．布萊克（William Blake）有感社會混沌，創作出《天真與經驗之歌》。詩集以兩種截然不同的聲腔，詠嘆同一個世界——讀者既聽見牧羊人的笛音，也耳聞年輕娼妓的詛咒；看到孩童眼中的光，也目睹倫敦街巷的暗。幾個世紀以來，人們習慣將「天真」與「經驗」視為人生的兩端，彷彿人必然從純真走向世故。然而在對立的兩端之間，還有什麼可能？//

// 有趣的是，三人討論詩集時，並不認為那僅僅是天真與殘酷的對比。「我們覺得，其實它是呈現一個人怎樣在世界或者社會裡安身立命。」//

《兩忘詠》作曲家盧定彰 Daniel 嘗試在 William Blake 兩本看似對立的詩集中找出連結。他將《天真之歌》與《經驗之歌》的詩歌配對，並發現其「互為表裡」的關係，於是以此為創作靈感。以〈掃煙囪的孩子〉為例，《天真之歌》尋求虛幻慰藉；《經驗之歌》則直指壓迫源頭。儘管視角不同，兩者卻同樣揭示了社會不公與剝削。

在演出的兩個空間裡，熟悉的聲音、影像和動作會以不同變奏反覆出現，營造「似曾相識」的感受，藉此回應文本「一體兩面」的風格。

In 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴, composer Daniel Lo pairs poems from “Songs of Innocence” and “Songs of Experience”, discovering they are like two sides of the same coin. In ‘The Chimney Sweeper’, the Innocence version seeks illusory comfort, while the Experience version reveals the sources of oppression. Despite the two different perspectives, both expose social injustice.

In the two performance spaces, different visual, auditory elements and movements will appear repeatedly, creating a sense of déjà vu and echoing the dual-faceted style of Blake’s works.

透過密集指導與排練，參加者將深造合唱技巧，並於結業音樂會中與黯聲合唱團歌手及 NOĒMA 同台獻藝，演出 Frank Martin《雙合唱團彌撒曲》等多首作品。
𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗔 是為香港培育下一代合唱人才的重要一步，向本地新晉歌手提供與世界級合唱藝術家學習及合作的珍貴機會。

‼️ Announcing 𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗔: NOĒMA Institute of Vocal Artistry ‼️
NOĒMA proudly launches 𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗔, a six-day masterclass for aspiring and early-career singers. Artists from the British choral supergroup 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐞 will return to lead the programme with NOĒMA’s Artistic Director, Sanders Lau. Through daily coaching and rehearsals, participants will develop advanced musicianship and ensemble skills, and will perform alongside four Tenebrae artists and NOĒMA in a final Showcase Concert. Highlights include Frank Martin’s Mass for double choir.
𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗔 marks the first major step in our commitment to nurture the next generation of choral artists. It offers a rare opportunity for emerging singers to work with world-class artists.
