Last weekend, we held our very first event at Asia Society Hong Kong — an evening filled with our favourite Mandopop melodies and the magical world of Studio Ghibli. What made it even more special was not just the music, but the place itself.
For many guests, stepping into Asia Society Hong Kong felt like discovering a secret hidden in the middle of the city. So many people came up to us saying, “I’ve passed this area so many times, but I never knew this place existed.”
And we completely understand why.
Tucked away among the skyscrapers of Admiralty, Asia Society Hong Kong is built on the site of the Former Explosives Magazine「舊域多利軍營軍火庫」 — a set of military buildings dating back to the 1860s during British colonial Hong Kong. Decades ago, this quiet hillside stored explosives and ammunition for the city. Today, those same historical buildings have been carefully preserved and transformed into one of Hong Kong’s most beautiful cultural spaces, where history, art, music, and community come together.
There’s something incredibly moving about that contrast.
A place once built for explosives is now filled with music, laughter, conversations, and memories.
That night, watching everyone wander through the stone pathways, sit beneath the trees, take photos under the glowing arches, and sing along to songs they grew up with… it reminded us why we started EGA in the first place.
Hong Kong is full of hidden gems like this.
Places with history. Places with soul. Places quietly existing in the middle of the city while so many people walk past without ever knowing their stories.
And that’s what EGA wants to share with you — not just events, but experiences. Moments that make you fall in love with Hong Kong all over again 💛
Tomorrow, we continue the journey at another iconic waterfront landmark — the Hong Kong Maritime Museum ⚓️
Right by Victoria Harbour, surrounded by the stories of Hong Kong’s relationship with the sea, Mandopop returns once again for another unforgettable night together ✨
