At our recent “Rooftop Hangout” on 16 April, we spent an evening exploring how artistic and ecological practices intersect, treading from land to ocean. Check out our latest glossary.➡️

Thank you to Michelle Tam ( ) for generously hosting and sharing with us at her recent solo exhibition “Floaty Eyes,” where she visualised drifting microbes through computer vision.

We were also excited to hear from artist Tsz Wai Pun ( ) on her upcoming film about soil and forest restoration, commissioned by the WMA; and London-based designer Justina Alexandroff ( ) — soon to be completing her residency at The Mills Fabrica — where she extended her ongoing research on biomaterials and forms.

We are more than grateful to be joined by long-time and new friends who spent the session with us, offering thoughtful responses. Until the next time as the community meets again, venturing to new themes and questions.

#天台塾教室誌｜假想紋身版畫

自去年9月，區華欣（）帶領四班同學進行版畫實驗，試試跳出紙張外，在皮膚上印刷。她以一個假設作為起點：「如果你要擁有一個永久的印記，它會長甚麼樣子？」

版畫練習希望打開與自身的親密對話，直視身體與禁忌的邊界。在數週間，同學由繪畫、雕刻至轉印，一步步建構出個人的符號和圖像。大家採樣自生活中的事物與記憶，有的關於運動、音樂、網絡照片、虛構故事。於最後一課，同學互相在彼此身上拓印，並以拍攝記錄，將個人創作拼湊成一幅集體肖像。

感謝香港華仁書院的邀請，天台塾自去年持續與藝術家合作走入教室，設計並帶領不同「其他學習經驗 — 藝術發展」課程。我們將會持續更新課程記錄！

| Tattoo with Printmaking

Since last September, Au Wah Yan ()’s recurring workshop reimagines printmaking beyond paper, experimenting with the skin as a primary surface to imprint. She prompts, “How would you visualise a mark that sits upon your body permanently?”

The workshop invites an intimate dialogue with oneself, confronting boundaries of our bodies and social taboos. From designing on paper to carving blocks, each student develops their personal imageries across the weeks. Most draw on everyday fragments and visuals, recalling sports, music, found photos, fictions. At the end, the group collaborates to imprint upon paper and each other, forming a collective portrait of personal emblems.

Thank you to Wah Yan College Hong Kong for the invitation. Rooftop Institute is excited to host this ongoing series of classroom takeover, bringing in artists to design and lead the “Other Learning Experiences - Aesthetic Education” classes. Stay tuned for more!

感謝所有參與「天台聚 #1」的朋友！2026 年初，我們啟動了這個藝術工作者的定期聚會，旨在建立一個開放且有機的平台，與大家共同探索藝術實踐的新想法與可能性。

作為一場共同「尋路」的企劃，首場聚會以「自我組織」（self-organising）為題。感謝藝術家許家維、嚴瑞芳、孫禮賢 .shuen 及勞麗麗的焦點分享，為我們展開了一場關於創作、群體協作與空間形塑的精彩對話。

每次交流所捕捉到的靈感，都將匯集成一份主題詞彙表。這是一份開放的紀錄，我們期待在未來的日子裡，與大家持續擴展並重新詮釋這些關鍵詞。期待接下來幾個月有更多對話發生！

Launched at the start of 2026, this series serves as a regular gathering for art practitioners - a platform to exchange ideas and cultivate new possibilities together. As a collaborative exercise in “wayfinding,” our first session centered on the theme of “Self-organising.” We were honored to have spotlight presentations by Hsu Chia-Wei , Yim Sui Fong , Larry Shuen .shuen, and Lo Lai Lai , whose insights sparked a vital dialogue on how artistic practice intersects with community-building and space-making.

The ideas harvested from each exchange are being gathered into a “Thematic Glossary” — a living tool for continuous expansion and reinterpretation. We look forward to the new dialogues that will emerge in the months to come!

#2025天台塾駐留藝術家

繼 #1212實現實驗和 #學學習角後，天台塾再次邀請擅長觀察與演繹人物故事的藝術家何燕兒合作，展開為期一年的駐校計劃。Miki以《月月同桌》為題，橫跨兩間中學進行創作和工作坊，以「朋友」為出發點，強調校園中人與人之間的連結，在同一空間裡彼此交叠又不盡相同的經驗。

Miki首先進駐屯門佛教沈香林紀念中學。校園中看似平常不過的風景，對她這個「外人」來說既是一個個「微小謎團」，亦成為了她與校工、學生和老師打開話匣子的契機 —— 球場上崩了一角的花槽是誰弄壞的？廁所內為何貼着奇怪的貼紙？全校「共養」的三隻龜有沒有名字，實際上又得到幾多同學的關注？

Miki以其拿手的人像速畫，與校內不同人物交換留言，嘗試為這些謎團解碼。她又在校園內蒐集一些無人認領的物件（如破損花盆、玩具、飾物等），邀請學生透過〈失物拍賣行〉為它們虛構身份與背景，並以「故事接龍」的方式逐步累積敘述，延伸出一段段長篇想像，重新定義、甚至「定價」這些離奇的校園失物。

其後Miki引導學生放下慣性的、符號化的描繪方法，重新學習「觀看」。同學如實觀察、細緻描繪校園烏龜的樣貌和習性，共並配合文字記錄，整理成一本本獨特的zine，作為觀察的成果。最後Miki要同學留意校園牆角、裂痕、污漬等最容易被忽略的歲月痕跡，透過拓印，將原本看似殘破的痕跡轉化為獨特的視覺圖案，拼湊成一幅共同創作的「校園紋理圖」。

來到下半年，Miki轉陣至位於灣仔的香港華仁書院進行，延續以學校為實驗場的創作方法，透過一系列實驗性工作坊，與學生一起重新觀看這所百年男校，發掘那些被忽略、遺失，或只存在於某些學生之間的小世界。

除了再次進行〈失物拍賣行〉，讓學生發揮想像力，將真假難辨的線索編織成獨特故事外，Miki亦引導同學將整個校園風景視為素材，搜集建築物的外形線條與表面紋理，想像成神秘符號，進而發展成一套全新的文字。此外，Miki亦在午膳期間在飯堂的大玻璃上發起即場互畫，每次邀請兩位校園人物對畫，有同學藉此認識了從未交談的學兄學弟、老師，甚至飯堂廚師。

正如Miki本身的創作，看似簡單的線條插畫之中，始終蘊藏着她對每一位筆下人物的關注與好奇。回看整個駐留計劃，學生很多時候以為自己只是在記錄、在觀察校園中那些看似瑣碎的事物，例如一個裂痕、一件失物、一個被忽略的人。然而，正是這些對細節的凝視與累積，使觀察不再只是描述；即使是對最微小事物的留意，本身已是一種對人、對所身處地方的深刻關懷。

#學校與藝團夥伴計劃

#天台塾2025駐留藝術家

我們今年與藝術家凌中雲Kevin ( ) 的合作始於「學校與藝團夥伴計劃」。第一階段他率先進駐香港華仁書院，以收集和交換物件、攝影作方法，共同拼湊出校園生活的軌跡。

Kevin先於有蓋操場設立大型帳幕，展開為期三星期的〈華仁天光墟〉，用「以物易物」的方式收集學生、老師和舊生要斷捨離的物件、回憶和故事，包括用同學食飯/買東西的熱感紙單據轉換成相紙，用歷年校慶紀念品換一課知識。他又同步設置臨時攝影部，重現其2025年作品〈做證〉，為大家影一輯華仁專屬的證件相，試圖跳脫此類影像中慣有的格式框架。

隨後，藝術家又與同學利用學校的舊物，包括胡應湘堂改建前建築上嘅題字、舊報紙、舊校刊等，於視藝室建成一條〈時光隧道〉，以物質記憶疊印出學校的歷史層次。

於第二階段進駐的佛教沈香林紀念中學，凌中雲則利用午膳時間，在校園的公共空間設立〈真 • 臨時遊樂場〉(.hk ) ，限定四天。如何能夠透過「玩」激發創意？這種參與又怎樣拓展藝術創作的想像？

他嘗試釋放校本傳統媒介創作的沉重，以藝術家身分主持各種新奇遊戲挑戰。先在操場合力吹出巨大泡泡，短暫填充校園空間；到第二天的搓飯團派對，組裝出創意食法；之後以非尋常工具鬥批蘋果，勝者拼出396cm長的蘋果皮；最後以錫紙拓印落葉，並票選最似的複製品。

雖看似與藝術創作無關，這些以身體互動、純粹地發揮想像的時刻，會否正正回應創作的本質？

#學校與藝團夥伴計劃

藝術家發展的道路可以計劃嗎？

在這條路上，沒有固定的時間表、空間或標準，不少藝術家畢業後少了和他人討論作品的機會。作為同路人，我們如何能夠支援新一代的青年藝術家呢？

今年，天台塾與兩所中學展開合作計劃，經過與老師們的深入交流，發現了一個藝術家駐留計劃的契機。於是，我們以自我組織、師友互動、空間共享的方式，公開招募藝術家參加。

別小看物理空間的拓展，思想的空間同樣能夠隨之擴大。無論是與peers討論還是獨自沉浸於創作，這裡都有充足的彈性，讓E人或I人參與者都找到屬於自己的節奏。

我們相信，朋友就是最好的學習夥伴。同時，不同創作階段的藝術家亦有機會以工作坊的形式，將其創作理念轉化為與中學生的互動，實現教學相長。

除了朋輩的交流，Meet the Mentors讓天台塾的董事與藝術家分享經驗，也討論到駐留計劃結束後，如何進一步發表他們的作品，並延續創作的發展。

我們希望這個藝術家駐留計劃，能成為藝術創作的有力支點，並為參與的藝術家提供一個充實的發展平台。

Can an artist’s development be planned?�
On this path, there is no fixed timeline, no set space, no standard to follow, and often a lack of people to discuss your work with. So how can we support the next generation of young artists?

This year, Rooftop Institute launched collaboration programs with two secondary schools. Through in-depth conversations with teachers, we discovered an opportunity to create an artist-in-residence program. This led us to open a call for artists, built on self-organization, mentorship exchange, and shared space.

Never underestimate the expansion of physical space — it can open up mental space too. Here, whether you prefer discussing ideas with peers or immersing yourself quietly in creation, there is plenty of flexibility for both extrovert and introvert artists to find their own rhythm.

We believe that friends are the best learning partners. Artists at different stages of their practice will also have the chance to transform their creative ideas into workshops with secondary students, learning through teaching.

Meet the Mentor is our experience-sharing platform, where Rooftop Institute board members and artists discuss how they can further present their work and continue developing their practice after the residency ends.

We hope this artist-in-residence program can serve as a meaningful support for artistic growth and offer participating artists a nourishing platform for development.
