THANK YOU FOR COMING TO THE OPENING RECEPTION OF “FLUID MAZE”!!

In an experimental interplay of various visual media, “Fluid Maze” explores the possibilities of seeing art through the unique perspective of eight Hong Kong artists, seeking to capture the collective experience of a city’s generation with the subtle details of daily life. Not all of the artists were born and raised in Hong Kong, but the city holds a special place in the growth of their creative practice. Each of their works represents their own story – offering both a direct and indirect dialogue between them and the city, the artists record different narratives of humanistic stories through portraiture and landscape with painting, installation art, and video.

The exhibition will be on view now through 13 March, drop by our Wan Chai space at 3 & 5 Sun Street to see the art works in person!

WOAW Gallery is proud to present “Fluid Maze”, a group exhibition showcasing the works of eight distinguished local artists – Hector Chan, IV Chan, Dony Cheng, SSAN Hui, Mandy Lau, Florence Lee, Wong Ka Ying, and Wu Jiaru – as they experiment with different mediums to question the meaning of “seeing”. Whether they live or grew up in Hong Kong, the artists are all connected by the city. The essence of Hong Kong is embedded in their works as they each weave their individual experiences, forming a maze of their consciousness in an interplay between each artwork and the bigger picture.

The term “fluid” refers to a lack offixed shape. Like liquid, it isfloating, formless, and freelyflowing. In the realm of art, we try to stay afloat by grasping at ideas amidst a sea ofdeeper connotations and interpretations as we seek tofind the “correct” answer. But likeliquid, art is not anchored to a single thought – it is an endlessflow of ideas as itfills andtakes the form of the space it occupies, presenting various meanings forever influx.Instead offinding the “true meaning”, “Fluid Maze” encourages visitors to simply enjoy theexperience of seeing art. Let the art carry you to no destination, and simply allow yourselfto be lost in the maze.

WOAW Gallery is delighted to return to ART SG 2024, with a group presentation featuring , , , , , and .

Through the lens of these different artists, they inscribe the stories they wish to tell onto their paintings, crafting a visual testament to their perception. In this spectrum of narratives, a myriad of compositions is born from the symphony of personal histories. Reality, celebrated for its plurality, unfolds as a shared tapestry woven by the diverse hands of these storytellers. In this collection of artworks, one person's stories converge with another's, giving rise to nuanced interpretations. In this spectrum of reality, their works peel back the layers of life, exploring the depths of human duality to create a vivid tableau that refracts and redefines our perception of reality.

Propelling the “Intrinsicality” chapter is Korean artist Miyeon Yi, who negotiates ideas of freedom, death, and ennui based on her own experience with her great-grandmother. Her atmospheric works illustrate a continuous push and pull between the anxiety of living empty lives and the hopeful desire to transform the world that we live in.

Jamie Gray Williams (b. 1989, Evansville, Indiana)

American artist Jamie Gray Williams primarily works with painting and drawing. She utilizes fantasy and humor to explore questions on inter-subjective limits, as well as the complex relationship between the mind and the body, imagination and reality, the self and others. This results in expressive compositions, filled with unique color combinations and figures that could be either waking nightmares or vaudeville performances. Jamie Gray Williams received her Masters of Fine Arts from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in 2017. Williams was a 2015 participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been exhibited at the Evansville Museum of Arts, History, and Science, Evansville, IN; Pilot Projects, Philadelphia, PA; Selenas Mountain, Ridgewood, NY; Demon Leg, New York, NY; Marvin Gardens, Ridgewood, NY; Little Berlin, Philadelphia, PA, and is in the collection of the University of Southern Indiana. Williams currently maintains a studio in Philadelphia and teaches drawing at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

at MiamiBeach has officially begin! WOAW Gallery is delighted to present a solo exhibition of ’s new series of paintings this year.

Robert’s kitchen reveals a dark and humorous truth about sensuality and familiarity today. Deploying the strange, elongated, and beautifully rendered figures he is known for, in front of us, unfolds an uncanny scene, one wherein alienation from the space we inhabit and immersion into the space we do not exist at the same plane. Roberts suggests that this — this indeterminate, imagined site — is where extant desire makes its play.

Thank you for coming to the opening of “Imagined States Ch2. Intrisicality”.

The second chapter, "Intrinsicality," refers to something that is natural and inherent, and takes place at the gallery’s Central location. In this chapter, the focus shifts inward as artists invite viewers to perceive their personal truths. Through the weaving together of intimate memories and unique stories, each artist presents their personal landscape, mediating their emotions and identity in the world. This immersive experience allows both the artists and the audience to reflect on their sense of self and engage in a shared contemplation of identity.
