惡名狼藉的 Melocchi Technique

著名意大利男中音及聲樂教育者Arturo Melocchi (1879-1960)是鼎鼎大名男高音 Mario Del Monaco 的老師，亦是Franco Correlli 的啟蒙老師。 他教學的方法令更弱的聲音都變得有共鳴 (Squillo)，喉嚨變得打開- 是一種具有驚人力量性的Chiaro-Scuro 歌唱法。（光暗運用）

我的老師Gary Catona 就是在研究教學法的時候，留意到他說的 "The Voice must be pushed"， 研發出Voice-Building Technique。那究竟Melocchi 用了什麼靈丹妙藥令學生變成強大的歌者？為什麼並沒有文獻記載呢？

據說, Melocchi因為教學非常嚴苛，曾被他在意大利所教的學生解僱。他曾經到過中國、俄國等國家教聲樂。在某一個機遇下，學習了Rattling的聲音技巧。而Rattling 亦是令聲音強大的秘密武器！

Rattling的聲音特質很像我們在重金屬音樂中聽到的嘶吼，也有一點像在Tibetan Throat Singing所用的聲音。以不同韻母Rattle練習，配合簡單的音階、強大的氣息支援，Rattling可以把喉頭穩穩的放到較低的位置，令聲音厚實而有力。而且，在正常吟唱的時候，喉頭因為有肌肉記憶 （Muscle Memory）,在不用可以想象得情況下已經可以穩在較低的位置！

學生應在有經驗的老師指導底下練習Rattling。而且，沒有良好的氣息支援，學習是沒有辦法Rattle 的！

這種技術恐怕是因為它嚇人的練習，沒有好好的傳承下去。或者，我們看到Mario Del Monaco唱歌的片段，總要給它一個從新冒起的機會！

Mask Singing 的迷思:

"Sing into the mask" 這個說法大家聽說過嗎？ 有很多著名的歌手形容自己歌唱時候如果達至最舒服、最有共鳴的境界，面部某些地方就會感到震動。震動的地方包括鼻樑、眼窩、額頭等等。不過這是不是代表我們要朝著、甚至 “使聲音集中”在mask的地方？或者這樣說，怎樣使到聲音集中呢？

其實，當我們聽到自己發出聲音的時候，聲音已經傳遍整個咽腔。意思是，我們不能夠抓著聲音，將它放在某一個部位上-

"Singing in the mask" 這個講法這是個人感官。我曾經有位同事告訴我他可以把聲音放到頭頂上！我說：你指著的地方其實裡面是腦袋呢，你想腦震蕩嗎？ 哈哈。

其實，我們能夠延伸及控制的位置是喉頭高低、咽腔打開與否，和軟蓋有否提高。其他的地方，例如鼻樑、面額的骨頭等等，都沒有辦法動呢！

所以，如果說Mask在面額、鼻子等等。倒不如說，Mask其實在喉嚨裡面！ 而且共鳴真正產生的地方在咽腔，不在鼻子裡面！ 只要以深呼吸的形式緩緩降低喉頭，配合適當的氣息支援，真正的共鳴就能夠產生了！

Regarding Skype lessons:

Due to the novel virus, many lessons have been conducted via Skype. Here is a reminder,

1. Make sure you have a stable internet connection.

2. Take advantage of the screen so you can see your alignment and mouth positions

3. My computer has auto-recording function for Skype. I will send you the recording right away.

4. Make sure you are also able to stand in front of the camera and still be able to show your face

5. Adjust the reception of sound on Skype so the volume is not overblown.

6. Prepare the MMO that you want to sing along and play it with another device.

7. If you can, sit near a keyboard.

Hi singers, wonder why Guddy always start vocalise with Ah or Oh instead of Eee right off the bat?

The voice must be open FIRST before adding in the focus. If the voice is forced to focus before proper opening of the throat, the only chance will be an inevitable squeeze in the throat, resulting in uncontrolled constriction.

Sometimes, listening to great singers gives us a false impression that they are putting a lot of squeeze/ pressure in their voice in order to get that bright, piercing sound. The fact is, the "squillo" comes from true opening of the pharynx.

各位Guddy的學生:

誠邀各位學生參與歌唱課錄影計劃。

本計劃是旨在讓其他同門同學能夠從教學片段裡學到不同的聲樂技巧及風格處理。因為不同同學有著不同的風格和強項，互相學習就來得有意義了！
