Today we join others around the world in observing International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.
The theme for this year's observance is “Leaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract,” which essentially speaks to the legacy of exclusion and marginalization affecting indigenous peoples.
It also opens the door for discussions on the urgent need to redesign the existing social contract to one where our form of governance and way of life as Indigenous Peoples is respected. And genuine opportunities for inclusive participation in the decision-making process are made available.
