We were so honored to create this logo for the TowaTuma Women’s Group and here’s the story of the concept.
The Story Behind the Towatuma Logo
The Towatuma logo celebrates the Warao women of Guyana’s North West and their connection to culture, community and the natural environment.
The canoe was chosen because it is central to Warao identity—the name Warao is commonly interpreted as “people of the canoe” or “boat people.” For generations, canoes have been essential to life along the rivers and waterways of the Barima-Mora Passage, connecting communities, families and livelihoods.
The three women travelling together embody Towatuma—“women working together”—while the flowing lines represent the waterways that shape their way of life.
The geometric elements are inspired by petroglyphs found in Guyana’s North West, connecting the logo to the region’s Indigenous heritage and ancestral presence.
Together, the logo represents women, water, heritage and community—working together, from their farm to your table.
