FROM CONCEPT TO CREATION:’The Metamorphosis of The Village Nook’
This the story of how a journey through time inspired a Creative Hub and first Art Gallery in Victoria, a Village rooted in abundant history and driven by purpose.
Nestled in Guyana on the Continent of South America, approximately 18 miles from Georgetown along the East Coast of Demerara lies Victoria — As the Village prepares to celebrate its 187 Anniversary in November 2026, a new cultural landmark has taken root in this historic community.
The Village Nook (TVN) seeks to honor a legacy of resilience while creating new pathways for healing, creativity and community development.
The founder Alvina A Naughton nee Luke was born and raised in the midst of a changing Political climate. Being a creative at heart she’s honored familial legacy by merging Creativity with Business and Philanthropy.
Travels and subsequent return to her roots in 2016 inspired the establishment of The Village Nook.
What was originally Alvina’s studio space has now morphed into a shared Creative Hub committed to prioritizing Creative Wellness.
And so, supported by her family, both old and newfound friends, she’s turned a decade of concept into creation.
In the spirit of celebrating remarkable milestones for our African Ancestry, and in recognition of ‘The Second International Decade for Peoples of African Descent’, we honor the Ancestors with the establishment of the first dedication to Arts and Cultural preservation.
We acknowledge the only two female ancestors contributing to our Village movement and pay tribute to the many women including the one whose vision for the property paved the way for those of us who have held space during the course of the metamorphic transformation of our Creative Hub and Gallery Space.
The Concept
The Village Nook was conceived as an alternative psycho-social safe space, committed to Creative Wellness and healing through Art.
Art is emotion rooted in Expression, it gives language to the unspoken, and creates space for what the heart needs to release.
The Creation
From that belief, multiple initiatives were born to foster community engagement:
📚 The Little Free Library at the Victoria Health Center — encouraging recreational reading and greater access to books.
🎨 Sip & Create at the Victoria Village Market — blending creativity, connection, and culture.
🛍️ A marketplace for local female entrepreneurs — creating opportunities for women to showcase their products and services.
🌟 Mentorship for young creatives — nurturing the next generation of artists, storytellers, and changemakers.
🤝 Non-judgmental safe spaces committed to GBV survivors — offering support, stability, and healing.
The Village Nook is more than a gallery.
It is a home for creativity, wellness, history, and community.
A space where history is honored, women are supported, young creatives are nurtured, and healing is made possible — one brushstroke, one book, and one conversation at a time. ❤️
