The art community in Guyana and across the Caribbean is deeply saddened by the passing of Guyanese artist Anthony Butts Antonio Butts , who resided in Trinidad and Tobago.

Anthony was a true son of the Caribbean whose passion for creativity, mentorship, and artistic expression touched many lives. He generously shared his knowledge with fellow artists and continuously encouraged others in their creative journeys. His work transcended medium and borders, leaving a lasting impact on the regional art community.

The team at FineArt.gy is especially grateful for the support, encouragement, and guidance Anthony extended over the years. His willingness to share his experience and uplift creative initiatives in Guyana meant a great deal to our growing artistic community. We deeply appreciate the kindness, wisdom, and genuine interest he showed in supporting both artists and platforms dedicated to the advancement of Caribbean art.

We remain thankful for the skills, insight, and encouragement he so freely gave. His contributions and influence will not be forgotten.

Anthony’s gentle spirit, humility, and soft-spoken nature will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. May you find comfort in the remarkable legacy he leaves behind and in the many lives he touched throughout the Caribbean.

A defining moment for FineArt.gy a few weeks ago.

We had the privilege of hosting Pauline Forlenza, Director and CEO of the American Federation of Arts, one of the most influential institutions in American art, and a proud daughter of Guyana, for a private gathering with a group of Guyanese artists.

The conversation was rich. We discussed the state of local art today, the unique cultural perspectives our artists bring to the global conversation, and the kinds of partnerships that can carry Guyanese work to international audiences and institutions.
This is exactly the work FineArt.gy was built for: connecting Guyanese talent to the wider world and creating the infrastructure for it to thrive.

To Ms Forlenza, thank you for the generosity of your time and for giving back to the place that shaped your love of art.
A sincere thank you to Dee George at Herdmanston for making this gathering possible. None of this happens without community.

To every artist in Guyana wondering if your work belongs out there, it does. And we're building the bridge.

Join us. The momentum is here.

Such a lovely initiative to have art at the cocktail reception space at the National Culture Centre. The pieces were spread across the room, and the guests enjoyed them. Grateful that local pieces have made their way to homes as far as Germany, Israel, Granada...and some closer to home and Trinidad & Tobago. ❤️
