[ ENG ] Melding dance practice with theory and research, Duncan Dance Research Center's (DDRC Athens) challenge is to provide space for inspiration, experimentation and creativity among the Greek and international dance community. Promoting new physical and verbal dialogues exploring the choreographic, philosophical, scientific, technological and educational strands of dance. Its primary objectiv
e is to accompany and provide coaching, practical support and services to new or emerging choreographers, while they are seeking and articulating their own choreographic voice. DDRC is:
- a dynamic dance house, dedicated to the development of modern dance and creation
- a residency center for individual artists or dance companies elaborating their own experimental and research projects
- a platform for the presentation of small-scale works
- a forum for the exchange of critical discourse and ideas among artists, the public and members of the local community
- an environmental frame for installations, site-specific works and other interdisciplinary projects
DDRC is housed in a unique building of historic value and architectural interest, designed and built in 1903 by Isadora Duncan’s brother Raymond Duncan. The building, designed according to the specifications of the ancient Mycenaean mansion, is one of the very few venues worldwide that have been created specifically for dance and that, a hundred years later, are still serving this purpose. It is the realization of the Duncans’ utopian vision of a space where dance is in a constant, fluid relationship with day-to-day life. In 1980, the Municipality of Vyronas as – responding to the call of international organizations, and honoring Isadora Duncan’s work and legacy – undertook the renovation of the building, which has been characterized by the Ministry of Culture as a Modern Monument. The relevant work was completed in 1992. DDRC Athens has two studios, space for daily training of a professional dance school hosted in the house in the morning, workshops for professional dancers, research projects and residencies, informal showings, lectures and discussions. The outer space and the architectural nature of the house provide an appropriate frame for cross-disciplinary projects, installations, site specific works, community dance productions. [GR] Το Κέντρο Μελέτης Χορού Ισιδώρας & Ραϋμόνδου Ντάνκαν είναι ένα Κέντρο Έρευνας για το Χορό, ένα διεθνές σημείο συνάντησης, πηγή πληροφόρησης και έμπνευσης για καλλιτέχνες του Χορού και για μέλη της τοπικής κοινωνίας, παιδιά και ενήλικες. Κύριοι άξονες της λειτουργίας του Κέντρου είναι η εκπαίδευση, η δημιουργία και η έρευνα.
Το Κέντρο Μελέτης Χορού Ισιδώρας & Ραϋμόνδου Ντάνκαν ιδρύθηκε το 1980 από το Δήμο Βύρωνα. Στεγάζεται σε ένα ανεκτίμητης ιστορικής αξίας και αρχιτεκτονικής ιδιαιτερότητας κτίριο, στο λόφο της Αύρας, το οποίο σχεδιάστηκε και κτίστηκε το 1903 από τον Ραϋμόνδο Ντάνκαν, αδελφό της Ισιδώρας Ντάνκαν. Το 1980 ο Δήμος Βύρωνα, ανταποκρινόμενος στο αίτημα διεθνών οργανισμών για το Xορό και τιμώντας το έργο και την προσφορά της Ισιδώρας Ντάνκαν, ανέλαβε την ανακατασκευή του κτιρίου, αφιερώνοντας τον χώρο ξανά στην τέχνη του χορού. Οι εργασίες ολοκληρώθηκαν το 1992.

Το Κέντρο Χορού Ισιδώρας & Ραϋμόνδου Ντάνκαν υλοποίησε τα τελευταία 15 χρόνια ένα τεράστιο έργο υποστήριξης, ανάδειξης, προβολής και προώθησης των σύγχρονων καλλιτεχνών του Χορού και του έργου τους, στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό, μέσα από την οργάνωση πολυεπίπεδων εκπαιδευτικών και καλλιτεχνικών δράσεων.
Από το 2006 το κέντρο Ντάνκαν είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος του Ευρωπαϊκού Δικτύου Κέντρων Χορού EDN (European Dance Houses Network) μαζί με άλλα διακεκριμένα Κέντρα Χορού στην Ευρώπη όπως το CND / Paris, ThePlace / London, Tanzquartier/ Vienna, NRW/Dusseldorf, Hellerau/Dresden, DansensHus / Stockholm, Mercatdeles Flors –Barcelona, Maisondela Danse/Lyon κ.λπ.)
Στην πενταετία 2010-2014 το Κέντρο μετείχε στο πενταετές Ευρωπαϊκό Πρόγραμμα MODULDANCE, το μεγαλύτερο πολιτιστικό πρόγραμμα χορού που επιδοτείται από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση – Culture Programme (2007-2013) ένα πρόγραμμα για την υποστήριξη ποιοτικών μορφών κινητικότητας των νέων καλλιτεχνών του χορού στην Ευρώπη).
