📣A nice opportunity for young documentary filmmakers from RIFE - Rhodope International Documentary Film Festival - member of Freiraum Platform 🎥🎬

The festival is open for film submissions. Feature, medium and short films completed between 01.01.2020 and 01.03.2022 are eligible for participation in the festival’s competition programmes.

Deadline: 01.03.2022

Rhodope International Documentary Film Fest (RIFE) revives one of the most emblematic international film events for young filmmakers in socialist Bulgaria held in the beautiful mountain town of Smolyan during the 1980’s and early 1990’s.
The idea for RIFE came as an answer to the need of documentary filmmakers to exhibit their films and to have a place where they can improve their abilities, learn more in their areas of interest, and hear the opinion of high-profile international film professionals.
RIFE’s second edition will take place in Smolyan, Bulgaria from 23 to 26 June 2022.
The festival is open for film submissions. Feature, medium and short films completed between 01.01.2020 and 01.03.2022 are eligible for participation in the festival’s competition programs.
Deadline: 01.03.2022 (tax free)

Part of our recent 360° production as a follow up to the workshop Artistic Approaches to Immersive Media, which was held by Tom Koch at Labattoir Project in July.
Spatial audio is also included, so - if possible - listen with headphones
and of course, see in 4K..!! ;)

✦ Production site: Bensousan Han - Μπενσουσάν Χαν.
The magic of the old inn was combined with the traditional songs that our two artists performed - songs carefully selected so as to represent different ethnicities that have been a part of the history of Thessaloniki.

✦ Performers: Maria Karamouza and Chrysostomos Vletsis.
Maria Karamouza’s training in classical singing and performance was combined Chrysostomos Vletsis’ formation in byzantine singing. Traditional ‘outi’/ oud and bendir hand drum also accompanied the songs.

✦ Featured Songs: Greek Lullaby and a love Song from Minor Asia.Lyrics available in YouTube description.

1. A lullaby from the islands of Mytilene, Thasos, Chios, originating in the greek musical tradition of Minor Asia.
2. The song is a ‘seated’ song (sung while sitting together in a cycle or around a table) with a love meaning, from Alatsata (a suburb of Smyrna) peninsular Eritrea of Asia Minor. The rhythm of the song is 4/4 (2-2).

➤ Here come some production images, by our recent 360° production as a follow up to the workshop Artistic Approaches to Immersive Media, which was held by Tom Koch at Labattoir Project in July.

In the summer, we had the pleasure of Media LAB workshop: Artistic Approaches to Immersive Media held by Tom Koch at Labattoir Project. As a follow up to this workshop … we made a 360 degrees production….!!!

Here is how it all came to be..

✱ 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭: 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐦
Tom Koch is also one of the artists that participate in FreiRaum - a programme by Goethe-Institut that focuses on the concept of Freedom in Europe, activating a network of 42 Goethe-Instituts and their partner institutions. In our city, it is supported by Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki.

✱ 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐈𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐮
{ 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐕𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐮𝐫’𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 }
Icannot Seeyou is the project that Tom Koch develops in the context of Freiraum. As a work in progress, it was exhibited in The New New - Art Science Tech Festival - Artecitya by Helexpo (installation Voyeur’s Reality). Here, the audience was invited to explore immersive portraits of people from different social and geographical backgrounds. The project included interviews with people from Berlin and Thessaloniki as well as 360 video capture and binaural 3D-audio from urban places they relate to - places both private and public. A next stage of this project will also be presented in Spring 2019 in Berlin.

✱ 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞:
Maria Karamouza along with Chrysostomos Vletsis were two of the project’s participants in Thessaloniki..!! Their background in performance + music - along with their good vibes - came together with Tom Koch’s concept of connecting people through digital media, in ways more meaningful and insightful than a ‘spoon-fed’ scroll. From this meeting our production emerged, one of the first with the new MediaLab crew..!!

Σήμερα έγινε η τελική παρουσίαση με τις προτάσεις που είχαν οι συμμετέχοντες στο Publication Design with Anja Lutz: The Artecitya Case που έγινε από το Labattoir Project σε συνεργασία το Artecitya Thessaloniki και το Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki. Το Media Lab ηταν εκεί.

➽ Freiraum is a programme by Goethe-Institut that focuses on the concept of Freedom in Europe, activating a network of 42 Goethe-Institutes and their partner institutions, cultural and civic.

In this context, Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki, London and Glasgow, in collaboration with Awaz Cic​ (Carlisle, UK), ArtBOX.gr| Creative Arts Management​ (Thessaloniki) and the Labattoir Project of the Municipality of Thessaloniki focus on two issues that shape our personal perception and expression: our social and cultural identity and the way we interact with each other and the world via technology.

Artists Evi Karathansopoulou and Thomas Koch use different sound and image technologies in order to touch upon these issues, bringing in contact people from Thessaloniki, Carlisle and other parts of Europe, forging a network of communication and transmitting their voices to the world.

In Spring 2019, the two artists works will be presented in Berlin, along with other works and projects selected among the Freiraum network.
