"Losing Eden" by Block722 x Maru Meleniou
Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with renowned ceramic artist maru meleniou for an exclusive co-creation: A new family of ceramic objects that explore nature, sustainability, and the Mediterranean landscape through the rich, organic essence of earthenware.
Titled "Losing Eden", the collection examines the delicate balance between past and present, life and death, and memory and aesthetics. Inspired by the natural environment of the Mediterranean and its diverse ecosystem, the artworks reflect on the extinction of native species due to human activity over millennia. As a focal point, the team studied Silphium—a plant treasured in ancient Greek and Roman times, now believed to be extinct. Its seeds became the starting point for the design, sparking a discourse on preservation, adaptation, and bio-modification.
Silphium’s existence and loss blur the lines between science fiction and reality. Expanding on this theme, the series embraces eight endangered Mediterranean plant species, expressed through organic, ambiguous forms that invite interpretation. The ceramic vessels’ tactile nature mirrors the seeds that inspired them, serving as a powerful catalyst for conversations around restoration, ecology, and equilibrium.
The first piece from this collection will be unveiled and auctioned as part of the Masters of Interior exhibition by CREAID, a non-profit organization supporting healthcare initiatives.
