FERRUM HONORE VENIAT

The Iron Circle. The relentless automata of the IV Legion, Iron Warriors and bodyguards of Primarch Perturabo, built by his own hands. The machines forged to embody his will and to bring the Iron Warriors’ doctrine of cold, methodical destruction to the battlefield.

For this Iron Circle Automaton of the IV Legion, the Iron Warriors, I wanted the miniature to feel less like a pristine war machine and more like what it truly is: a weapon that has endured the same wars as the Legion that commands it.

The palette is built around worn steel, aged brass and the unmistakable hazard markings of the IV Legion, with carefully controlled battle damage, scratches, grime and weathering throughout the armour. The weathering is deliberately extensive, but restrained enough to preserve the mechanical details and the brutal elegance of the original sculpt.

The shield received particular attention, with the hand-painted “FERRUM HONORE VENIAT” inscription becoming almost a declaration of purpose: May iron come with honour.

The Legion markings, numerals and heraldry were added as usual, while the base was finished to place the Automaton directly in the midst of a war zone rather than on a display plinth.

A machine without fear. A machine without fatigue. A machine that does not retreat.

Duty, even in death. In death, enduring war.

"Brother against brother. Mournival against Mournival." ⚔️🐺💥

The final duel on the ruins of Isstvan III. 🏛️ After three months of desperate, grinding warfare, Garviel Loken stands toe-to-toe with Ezekyle Abaddon. Not as friends and mournival brothers under the Warmaster’s banner, but as sworn enemies on a dying world.

For this diorama, I deliberately rejected the sea-green of the Sons of Horus for Loken, repainting his armor in the crisp, ancestral grey/white of the Luna Wolves. After months in the ash and rubble, it serves both a tactical necessity for visual identification and an ideological declaration: Loken remains true to the Emperor, refusing to march under the Warmaster's new colors. ⚪️🔥

Craft Details:

Expressions: Focused heavily on capturing the raw rage, heartbreak, and tension in their faces, two brothers who feel deeply betrayed by one another. 💔

Finish & Weathering: Applied Forge World decals and heavy weathering powders to reflect three months of relentless, ruinous siege combat on Isstvan III. 🪨🏜️

Please also take a lot at the added details on the base, some Emperor's Children helmets and added skulls...

💀The Grave Wardens Advance💀

Τhe Grave Wardens of the Death Guard Legion advance side by side, embodiments of attrition warfare and biological annihilation during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. Clad in Cataphractii Terminator armour, these warriors represent the Legion at its most methodical and merciless, moving forward without haste, without retreat, and without concern for the cost.

This was a commissioned squad of five Grave Wardens, and particular care was taken to ensure heavy, realistic weathering in line with Death Guard doctrine. Their armour tells a story of prolonged exposure to filth, toxins, and corrosive battlefields, where endurance mattered more than speed and survival was measured in hours rather than moments.

The base armour colour was built from Morghast Bone, washed with Agrax Earthshade, then layered with wraithbone to restore volume and contrast. Recesses were reinforced using heavily thinned Doombull Brown, while selected edges were picked out with white to retain definition without breaking the worn aesthetic. The green armour sections were layered using Orc Flesh with lighter highlights of the same tone, followed by controlled washes of Agrax Earthshade and thinned Doombull Brown to unify the palette and reinforce the Legion’s decayed appearance.

Bases were built in my usual style using cork, modelling sand, and subtle weathering, aiming for a dry, contaminated battlefield feel rather than dramatic terrain. Horus Heresy decals from Forgeworld were applied to reinforce Legion identity without overpowering the paintwork.

These Grave Wardens are not heroic figures in motion, but instruments of inevitability. Where they walk, resistance does not break in a single moment, it simply erodes and dies.

ULTRAMARINES CHAPTER – MARNEUS CALGAR 🔵

Some miniatures are more than collectibles, they are pieces of Warhammer history.

This unique diorama is built around the original metal Marneus Calgar and Honour Guard miniatures, released in 1988 for the 1st Edition of Warhammer 40,000 (Rogue Trader). More than three decades later, these classic sculpts still possess a character and charm that make them instantly recognizable.

For this commissioned project, I wanted to recreate a quiet moment amidst the devastation of war. The scene is set amongst the shattered marble ruins of Macragge or perhaps another proud world of Ultramar, where the Graeco-Roman architecture that defines the Ultramarines' identity still stands despite the destruction surrounding it.

The beautifully sculpted resin scenic base by provided the perfect canvas to capture that atmosphere, blending broken columns, cracked stonework and ancient ruins into a setting worthy of the XIII Legion's legacy.

The base was further enhanced with subtle weathering using Forge World weathering powders and pigments to create the dust and wear of a war-torn city, while the chapter markings and heraldry were completed using a combination of Games Workshop and Forge World decals to preserve the classic Ultramarines aesthetic.

Painting these legendary miniatures was both a privilege and a journey back to the earliest days of Warhammer 40,000.

There was a time when their cry echoed across the galaxy…“LUPERCAL!”

Luna Wolves...two words that were once synonymous with loyalty. They became the Sons of Horus, three words now heavy with treachery and sorrow.

The towering Luna Wolves Saturn-IX Dreadnought: an ancient colossus forged for the Great Crusade. The lone Legionary at its feet reminds us of its sheer magnitude, both in form and legacy.

Their base is the ground of memory: cork and sand turned to dust, the broken remnants of Ullanor Orks beneath them, barbed wire twisted in silence. Εvery rivet, every scar, a whisper of a war long past.

From the cradle of Holy Terra came this warrior, his armour still bearing the proud marks of the Unification Wars. A symbol of purity and strength, of oaths once unbroken.

Before the darkness took them, they were heroes.
Before the Fall… there were the Luna Wolves.

🐦‍⬛ Raven Guard Mor Deythan Sniper Squad 🐦‍⬛

From the shadows they strike, silent, precise, unseen. One of my recently completed commissions: a Mor Deythan sniper squad of the XIX Legion, built and painted with full attention to every detail.

Each base was custom built to match a war-torn urban environment, and the cloaks were carefully painted with urban camouflage in the same tones, allowing the squad to truly blend into their surroundings as intended by Raven Guard doctrine.

Forgeworld decals were used for authenticity, along with weathering powders to tie everything together and ground the models naturally into their bases.

Every surface, every edge, every small detail has been treated with care. From the subtle wear on the armor to the restrained, realistic finish that fits their role as ghost-like marksmen of the battlefield.

⚫⚪ 🐍 XX LEGION: ELITE EFFRIT SQUAD 🐍 ⚪⚫

"Hydra Dominatus. Everything is a lie."

The Effrit were never intended to fight glorious battles. They were created to erase them before they ever began.

Specialists in infiltration, sabotage and silent elimination, the Alpha Legion's Effrit Cadre operated behind enemy lines, striking without warning before vanishing without a trace. Every operative was equipped with unconventional wargear, tailored for missions where deception mattered more than brute force.

This squad is heavily converted to reflect that clandestine role. Multiple Alpha Legion upgrade kits were combined throughout the unit, alongside Eldar Shuriken Catapults repurposed as advanced test weapons of Xenos origin. Custom communications equipment, throwing knives, grenades and numerous additional details were added to reinforce their identity as elite covert operatives rather than conventional Legionaries.

The Effrit colour scheme completes the illusion, creating warriors who look as though they belong in the shadows instead of the battlefield.

The scenic bases were built using cork, modelling sand and carefully selected tufts, while subtle weathering was achieved with Forge World weathering powders and pigments. Legion heraldry and tactical markings were completed using a combination of Games Workshop and Forge World decals.

One of my favourite Alpha Legion projects to date—where every conversion serves the lore as much as the aesthetics.

🕷️ SOUL DRINKERS: CHAPTER MASTER SARPEDON 🕷️

Some legends deserve more than a simple paint job. They deserve to be brought to life.

Sarpedon, the tragic and mutated Chapter Master of the Soul Drinkers, has always been one of my favourite characters from the Black Library universe. His loyalty to the Emperor never faltered, even after his Chapter was declared renegade, making him one of Warhammer 40,000's most fascinating anti-heroes.

This miniature was a completely custom conversion, made 4 years ago, built to match his description from the novels.

The conversion combines parts from the Gigantic Goblin Spider and the Firstborn Librarian as the core of the model. A Necron Canoptek Spyder leg was incorporated to recreate Sarpedon's iconic mechanical limb, while a classic metal Grey Knights arm and Nemesis halberd were transformed into the legendary Soulspear, the Chapter's most sacred relic.

The scenic base was finished using cork, modelling sand and carefully selected tufts, while weathering was achieved with Forge World weathering powders, pigments and subtle battle damage. Chapter markings and heraldry were completed using a combination of Games Workshop and Forge World decals to remain faithful to the lore.

This remains one of the most enjoyable conversion projects I've ever completed.

⚔️ TEMPLAR BRETHREN: THE EMPEROR'S SWORN SWORDS ⚔️

Among the ranks of the VII Legion, few warriors commanded as much respect as the Templar Brethren.
Long before the Second Founding and the birth of the Black Templars Chapter, these elite warriors served as Rogal Dorn's most zealous and relentless assault troops. Clad in their distinctive black armour, they embodied unwavering loyalty, absolute discipline and an unbreakable devotion to the Emperor's Great Crusade.

This squad represents the Templar Brethren during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, when they fought as an elite formation within the Imperial Fists Legion, carrying the Legion's ideals into the fiercest boarding actions and brutal close quarter battles across the galaxy.

For this project, I wanted to capture the contrast between their noble heraldry and the harsh reality of constant warfare. The black armour is enriched with subtle weathering, battle damage and metallic wear, while the white shoulder plates, Legion markings and heraldic details preserve the proud identity of the VII Legion.

The bases were built using cork, modelling sand, tufts and natural battlefield textures to create a war-torn environment. Forge World weathering powders were applied to blend each miniature naturally into the terrain, while Games Workshop and Forge World decals were used throughout the squad to faithfully recreate the heraldry and iconography of the Imperial Fists.

Though history would remember their successors as the Black Templars, these warriors were the original crusading brethren—the Emperor's unwavering shield and Rogal Dorn's chosen champions.

Loyalty. Devotion. Duty.
