Α🎯 Exodus, The One Who Is Many 🎯Ω

Latest completed commission from Sotogun Painting Studio: Exodus, the legendary marksman and special operative of the Alpha Legion.

Unlike many of the larger than life heroes of the Age of Darkness, Exodus represents a different kind of threat. No grand speeches. No glorious charges. Just patience, precision, and the certainty that a single well placed shot can change the course of an entire campaign.

For this project, I focused on creating a rich metallic turquoise finish (new Vallejo Metal colours) to capture the mysterious and ever shifting nature of the Alpha Legion. The ornate scale pattern details, silver trim, glowing optics, and Legion iconography help break up the armor while maintaining the covert aesthetic that defines these elusive warriors.

The Forgeworld decals were used throughout to reinforce the Legion's identity (I especially like the cape decal on the last photo), while subtle weathering was applied to suggest a veteran operative who has spent decades conducting clandestine operations across countless warzones.

The scenic base was finished in the style used throughout many of my Horus Heresy projects, providing a stark contrast to the vibrant armor and helping draw attention to the miniature itself.

🩸⚔️Angels of Ruin⚔️🩸

The Angel's Tears were among the most feared formations of the IX Legion, descending from the skies to deliver annihilation upon the enemies of the Imperium. For this squad, I chose an alternative colour scheme, painting them in black rather than the traditional red. It felt fitting for warriors operating alongside the Destroyer cadres, specialists in the grim arts of total warfare and armed with weapons designed to bring devastation on a massive scale.

These are classic Forge World sculpts equipped with gr***de launchers, carrying all the character and brutal elegance of the Horus Heresy range that first drew me into the setting. Their dark armour, weathered details and battlefield-worn appearance reflect the role they were created to fulfil: not as heroes of glorious charges, but as harbingers of destruction sent where mercy had long since failed.

Decals from Forgeworld and Games Workshop. Bases made with cork, modelling sand and turfs.

🛡️ The Unbroken Wall 🛡️

The latest completed project from Sotogun Painting Studio, a squad of Imperial Fists Legion Cataphractii Terminators equipped with storm shields, advancing as an unstoppable bulwark of the VII Legion.

These are the classic Cataphractii models, which I subtly converted by slightly raising the torso with a small amount of green stuff at the waist connection. The adjustment helps them stand a little taller while preserving the proportions and character of the original sculpts. While the newer Cataphractii models are certainly imposing in size, I have always been particularly fond of the older range and its more archaic, utilitarian appearance, which feels perfectly suited to the Age of Darkness.

Every shield, heraldic device and Legion marking was carefully finished using Forgeworld decals to reinforce the individuality of each veteran while maintaining the unified appearance of a disciplined shield wall. Weathering was applied throughout the armour and shields to evoke warriors who have endured countless sieges, boarding actions and brutal close quarter battles across the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.

The contrast between the rich yellow armour and the dark metallic trim helps emphasize the immense weight of Cataphractii armour, while the battle damage and blood effects add a sense of momentum, as though these veterans have just shattered an enemy line and continue their relentless advance.

The textured stone bases and dry tufts complete the scene, creating the impression of Imperial Fists veterans marching through the ruins of a breached fortress, the very battlefield for which they were created.

Ave Imperator! Praetorians of Terra endure.

⚡ “Ride the Storm” ⚡

The latest completed commission from Sotogun Painting Studio, a White Scars Praetor clad in heavily customized MKII Crusade Armour, charging headlong into the enemy lines exactly as the sons of Chogoris were meant to fight. The older armour pattern combined with the dynamic running pose gave this miniature a real Great Crusade feeling, almost like a warrior caught mid-assault during the early years of the Horus Heresy.

For this project I wanted the white armour to feel battle-worn rather than pristine, with dust, scratches and weathering worked into the plates to reflect the brutal speed warfare of the V Legion. The Forgeworld decals added that final Legion character, while the custom base ties him visually with the rest of the army and reinforces the feeling of movement across a harsh battlefield.

One detail I especially enjoyed painting was the turquoise chest cords against the white and red armour, they break the palette beautifully and immediately draw the eye toward the center of the model. The curved blade and the flowing crest also give him a very noble but savage silhouette, which fits the White Scars perfectly.

For the Emperor and Jaghatai Khan!!!

“THE RED ANGEL UNCHAINED”

Angron Transfigured, Daemon Primarch of the World Eaters. Without question one of the most detailed and overwhelming models I have ever worked on, with wings so massive they barely fit within the frame itself.

For this project I chose a darker and more horrifying interpretation of Angron’s daemonic flesh, inspired by the older Black Library depictions and artwork of the Siege of Terra era. Rather than bright red skin, I wanted him to feel ancient, corrupted and monstrous, with leathery flesh stretched over something no longer truly mortal. A tragic fall indeed...

The base was expanded with additional stones, skulls and modelling sand to better support the sheer scale and brutality of the miniature. I also spent a great deal of time on the fallen Blood Angel marine and banner beneath him, as I wanted the whole scene to feel like a frozen moment taken directly from the nightmare of Terra’s final war.

Every section of this model is packed with detail. Chains, trophies, torn flesh, battered armor trim, gore, ruined masonry and scorched metal. An absolutely insane miniature to paint and an unforgettable commission to work on.

The Red Angel walks. And the galaxy burns.

⚔️Effrit Saboteur — Alpha Legion⚔️

Latest commission piece

The Alpha Legion is famous for their iconic metallic teal. This client wanted something different. An operative in the dark, all-black armor scheme of the Effrit, that still screams Alpha Legion through every detail.

The challenge was making black armor feel rich and layered rather than flat. Highlights were built up using Dark Reaper and The Fang, carefully blended to create that cold, dark steel feel, complemented by silver trim, bronze and copper accents and deep shadows in the recesses.

The twin-serpent emblem on the cloak and all Legion markings are from the official Forge World Alpha Legion decal sheet, subtle, sharp and carefully placed.

The base is built using cork for natural rocky texture, modelling sand and hand-picked tufts, one of my favourite basing approaches that suits this piece perfectly.

⚔️“THE GAUNTLETS OF ULTRAMAR”⚔️

Marneus Calgar, Chapter Master of the Ultramarines and one of the greatest living defenders of the Imperium. My latest completed commission, this new miniature of Calgar was painted in a slightly darker shade of blue to give the XIII Legion’s master a more regal and imposing presence upon the battlefield.

The base was built in the same style as many of my recent creations, with added texture, skulls and tufts to create a war-torn atmosphere without overwhelming the miniature itself. Decals and weathering were applied carefully in order to preserve the balance between noble heroism and battlefield realism.

I especially wanted Calgar to feel ancient, heavy and commanding. Not simply a warrior, but a symbol of the Imperium’s endurance.

Ave Ultramar. Courage and Honour.
