🚨 BIG NEWS FROM THE DHAMAKA ARTS UNIVERSE 🚨

The official poster for
Khandan (Family) – The Shame Generation ✨

And we are beyond excited to announce that the phenomenal Huxtable will be joining the project as Director alongside creative vision 🚀💫

Amanda is an absolute powerhouse of theatre, storytelling, and artist development, and having her onboard for this next chapter of Khandan feels genuinely thrilling. The ship just got a serious upgrade 🛸✨

Written and performed by Sid Akbar and presented by Dhamaka Arts, Khandan is a bold new solo show travelling through time, memory, q***rness, culture, chaos, and family.

Every cup of tea becomes a portal.
Every timeline holds a secret.
Every generation leaves something behind ☕🌌

Blending sci-fi spectacle with comedy, heart, and brutally honest storytelling, Khandan explores what it means to search for belonging while carrying the weight, love, and expectations of family across galaxies.

This one is personal.
This one is camp.
This one is emotionally intergalactic ❤️🚀

SHE HAS ARRIVED 🚀🌈

Seeing the Khandan (Family) – The Shame Generation poster printed at full size at Bradford Arts Centre feels a little surreal honestly 😭

This q***r brown sci-fi universe that started as ideas, conversations and chaos is becoming REAL.

Huge love to everyone helping bring this show to life ✨

Somewhere in Bradford… a q***r brown space opera is being built out of post-it notes, big conversations and beautiful chaos 🚀🌈

The process for Khandan (Family) – The Shame Generation has already been intense, emotional, hilarious and deeply rewarding. Every day the world gets bigger and the story gets more honest.

Very grateful to be building this alongside ✨

I’ve been so deep in the ADHD hyperfocus cave during rehearsals that I completely forgot to document most of the process… so instead here’s my wall of colour-coded panic ☕️🚀

Somewhere in this sticky note multiverse is the entirety of Khandan (Family) – The Shame Generation.

At this point every colour represents either:

* a timeline
* a family argument
* generational trauma
* q***r joy
* emotional devastation
* or someone needing a cup of tea

Honestly the process of making theatre as a neurodivergent person is wild because one minute you’re moving a single sticky note and the next thing you know six hours have passed and you’ve accidentally rewritten the emotional structure of the entire show.

Would genuinely love to know if other creatives organise their process like this or if this is specifically “q***r brown sci-fi ADHD brain” behaviour because right now my rehearsal room looks like a detective drama directed by Star Trek aunties.

Back in Manchester. Cup of tea in hand. Exhausted… and full. 🫖✨

Week one of rehearsals for Khandan (Family) – The Shame Generation is done.

We dived deep—mining memory, identity, and lived experience. Messy, honest, and alive.

Back in q***r space, held by my people, telling a story that doesn’t shrink. There’s been tears, laughter, and real q***r joy.

What we’ve built already feels huge—and it’s only the beginning.

The official poster for
Khandan (family) – The Shame Generation ✨

Written and performed by Sid Akbar, presented by Dhamaka Arts — this new solo show travels through time, memory, and belonging, exploring what family really means when you’re caught between cultures, expectations, and your own truth.

Every sip of tea, every moment, every version of yourself… it all lives here.

Told through a bold, sci-fi lens (yes… we’re going intergalactic 🚀), this is a journey through family, q***rness, identity, and the stories we carry across generations.

This one is personal.

I was asked to step away from my acting class because I wasn’t “in the right headspace.”

What that really meant was my ADHD.

It brought up a lot — overwhelm, RSD, that feeling of being “too much” again.

So I wrote about it. Not just what happened, but what it says about training spaces, the industry, and how we need to do better.

And how I’m choosing to do things differently with Dhamaka Arts.

It’s 12:43 a.m. and everything feels quiet… but not still.

Three years after Besharam, I’m back in that in-between space. Not breaking through this time, but shaping what comes after.

Khandan: Family — The Shame Generation is about belonging. The families we’re born into. The ones we choose. And the question that never really leaves us… can you be fully yourself and still belong?

This blog is a little window into where I’m at right now. The thoughts before rehearsals. The quiet before the jump.
