He has developed the idea to bring every ten years ten international artists to his town of birth, Itea, Greece. This year he organizes after 5 years the exhibition ‘1+10’. It will take place from 15 September till 25 September 2023. For ‘1+10’ it is of great importance that inhabitants are involved. Therefore the exhibition will function as an open atelier. During the week students from different
schools can visit lectures and or performences, led and translated by Sylvia Misirli, doctor in History of Art. It gives great value that the local people can meet the artists, have discussions and follow the process of creating. As part of the event to celebrate the sea fight of Agalis (2023), the artists will pre- sent their works in the old olive warehouse Koniako in Itea, which will be the base of 1+10 (atelier / workshops / open exhibition space). During their stay, each artist creates a new work that they present at the end of the exhibition. The participation of local residents is a great inspiration for the 1+10 team. This is why the creation-presentation areas will function as open studios where visitors can participate and be informed. The event is an opportunity to meet the artist but also follow the development of the artists’ work. This way the public can approach contemporary art with a new eye. The experience of the previous events proved to us that the warm hospitality of the local residents excited the artists and they still talk about it. The purpose of 1+10 is the exchange of opinions, intellectual and artistic; and to encourage each other to look around
“For decades it has become clear that what weighs in modern art is the process as an expression of creative thinking and not only its result”
