🔹 Announcement: Selection Committee Member – Nora Lefa

We are honored to introduce Nora Lefa, distinguished architect, artist and academic, Associate Professor at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Ioannina, as member of the Selection Committee for the Knots & Patterns Open Call under the Creative Europe Programme.

➤ Biography
Nora Lefa, M.A., MSc., PhD, is an architect and visual artist. She has lectured at various universities in Greece, and at the Universities of Sarajevo, Belgrade, and Montenegro; she is now Associate Professor of Audio-Visual and Video-Art at the School of Fine Arts, University of Ioannina, Greece. She has presented her work in several solo and group exhibitions in Athens, Sarajevo, Belgrade, New York, Miami, Barcelona, Zurich, Paris, London and Venice. Her latest solo exhibition was held at Casale dei Cedrati, Villa Doria Phamphilj, Rome, Sept. 01-08, 2024. She has won distinctions for her architectural and artistic work. She has resented papers at several international conferences and has authored two books: Sarajevo Again (Athens: Plethron 2020, in Greek; Sarajevo: International Peace Center 2023 in English and in Bosnian), and Buildings Used (London: Routledge 2019 -co-authored). She has co-organised international conferences and exhibitions, and was a member of the respective scientific committees and jury. She has translated into Greek Serbian and Bosnian poetry.

➤ Βιογραφικό
Η Νόρα Λεφά, M.A., MSc., PhD, είναι αρχιτέκτονας και εικαστικός. Έχει διδάξει σε πανεπιστήμια στην Ελλάδα και στα Πανεπιστήμια του Σαράγεβο, του Βελιγραδίου και του Μαυροβουνίου. Σήμερα είναι Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια Οπτικοακουστικών και Βιντεοτέχνης στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων. Έχει παρουσιάσει το έργο της σε ατομικές και ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Αθήνα, το Σαράγεβο, το Βελιγράδι, τη Νέα Υόρκη, το Μαϊάμι, τη Βαρκελώνη, τη Ζυρίχη, το Παρίσι, το Λονδίνο και τη Βενετία. Η πιο πρόσφατη ατομική της έκθεση πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Casale dei Cedrati, Villa Doria Phamphilj, Ρώμη, 1-8 Σεπτεμβρίου 2024. Έχει διακριθεί για το αρχιτεκτονικό και εικαστικό της έργο. Έχει παρουσιάσει επιστημονικές εργασίες σε διεθνή συνέδρια και έχει συγγράψει δύο βιβλία: Sarajevo Again (Αθήνα: Πλέθρον 2020, στα ελληνικά· Σαράγεβο: International Peace Center 2023, στα αγγλικά και βοσνιακά) και Buildings Used (Λονδίνο: Routledge 2019 - συν-συγγραφή). Έχει συνδιοργανώσει διεθνή συνέδρια και εκθέσεις και έχει συμμετάσχει σε επιστημονικές επιτροπές και κριτικές επιτροπές. Επίσης, έχει μεταφράσει σερβική και βοσνιακή ποίηση στα ελληνικά.

We are honored to introduce Vangelis Gokas, distinguished artist and academic, and Dean of the School of Fine Arts at the University of Ioannina, as member of the Selection Committee for the Knots & Patterns Open Call under the Creative Europe Programme.

➤ Biography
Vangelis Gokas was born in Corinth in 1969. He studied at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1988-1994) with professor Vangelis Dimitreas and at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona (1995-1997). In 2006 he completed his postgraduate studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts. His work has been featured in nine solo exhibitions, as well as in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Including: Portals, Neon (2021), Theorems, Union of Greek Art Critics, AICA Hellas, EMST (2018); 3rd Athens Biennale MONODROME (2011) and In the present tense: Young Greek artists, EMST (2007). His works are represented in museums and private collections in Greece and abroad. Since 2011 he has been teaching as an associate professor at the Painting Studio of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Ioannina. He lives and works in Ioannina.

Με τιμή παρουσιάζουμε τον Βαγγέλη Γκόκα, διακεκριμένο καλλιτέχνη και ακαδημαϊκό, Κοσμήτορα της Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων, ως μέλος της Επιτροπής Αξιολόγησης της ανοιχτής πρόσκλησης Knots & Patterns στο πλαίσιο του Προγράμματος Creative Europe.

➤ Βιογραφικό
O Βαγγέλης Γκόκας γεννήθηκε στην Κόρινθο το 1969. Σπούδασε στο Τμήμα Εικαστικών και Εφαρμοσμένων Τεχνών της Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης (1988-1994) με καθηγητή τον Βαγγέλη Δημητρέα και στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών του Πανεπιστημίου της Βαρκελώνης (1995-1997). Το 2006 ολοκλήρωσε τις μεταπτυχιακές του σπουδές στην ΑΣΚΤ, στο Μεταπτυχιακό Εικαστικών Τεχνών. Έχει παρουσιάσει τη δουλειά του σε εννέα ατομικές εκθέσεις, καθώς και σε ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό. Ενδεικτικά: Portals, ΝΕΟΝ (2021), Θεωρήματα, Ένωση Ελλήνων Τεχνοκριτικών, AICA Hellas, ΕΜΣΤ (2018)· 3η Μπιενάλε της Αθήνας Μονόδρομος (2011) και Σε ενεστώτα χρόνο: Νέοι Έλληνες καλλιτέχνες, ΕΜΣΤ (2007). Έργα του βρίσκονται σε μουσεία και ιδιωτικές συλλογές στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό. Από το 2011 διδάσκει ως αναπληρωτής καθηγητής στο Εργαστήριο Ζωγραφικής της Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων. Ζει και εργάζεται στα Ιωάννινα.

Ανοιχτό κάλεσμα: Exploring textile heritage landscapes through database storytelling

Ανοιχτή πρόσκληση σε φοιτήτριες/φοιτητές και νέες/ους επαγγελματίες στον πολιτιστικό τομέα (18–29 ετών) στη Σλοβενία, την Ελλάδα και την Πολωνία: 15 άτομα συνολικά θα επιλεχθούν και θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να συμμετέχουν στο ευρωπαϊκό πρόγραμμα Knots & Patterns (Creative Europe, European Cooperation Projects). Το πρόγραμμα περιλαμβάνει μια σειρά από τριήμερα διεπιστημονικά εργαστήρια στα Ιωάννινα (6–8 Μαΐου 2025) και συμμετοχή σε καλλιτεχνικά και ερευνητικά residencies 6 εβδομάδων σε Σλοβενία, Ελλάδα ή Πολωνία.

Το έργο στοχεύει στην τεκμηρίωση και έρευνα της υφαντικής τέχνης και των κοινοτήτων που τη διαφυλάττουν μέσω της δημιουργίας βάσεων δεδομένων που περιλαμβάνουν φωτογραφικό υλικό, ηχογραφήσεις, βίντεο, γραπτές περιγραφές και καταγραφή με εικαστικά και νέα μέσα. Η διαδικασία γίνεται μέσα από επιτόπια έρευνα με αξιοποίηση εθνογραφικών μεθόδων και πρακτικών συμμετοχικής έρευνας. Στόχος είναι η κατανόηση και εμπειρία της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς ως συνόλου ζωντανών πρακτικών και γνώσεων που διαμορφώνονται από τις τοπικές κοινότητες. Σκοπός του προγράμματος είναι η ανάπτυξη μιας ψηφιακής αφήγησης που αξιοποιεί βάσεις δεδομένων (database storytelling) και η δημιουργία ενός συλλογικού καλλιτεχνικού έργου χειροποίητης υφαντικής τέχνης μέσω της δημιουργικής αξιοποίησης των δεδομένων που έχουν συλλεχθεί, το οποίο θα παρουσιαστεί σε εκθέσεις στη Σλοβενία και την Πολωνία.

Προϋποθέσεις συμμετοχής:
● Ηλικία: 18 έως 29 ετών
● Διαμονή ή Καταγωγή: Σλοβενία, Ελλάδα ή Πολωνία
● Ακαδημαϊκό ή επαγγελματικό ενδιαφέρον σε τομείς όπως: υφαντική τέχνη, design, land art, αρχιτεκτονική, περιβαλλοντικές σπουδές, εθνογραφία, άυλη πολιτιστική κληρονομιά, γεωγραφία
● Ενθουσιασμό για τη μελέτη της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς και την καλλιτεχνική δημιουργία
● Ικανότητα συνεργασίας σε διεπιστημονικές ομάδες στην αγγλική γλώσσα
● Διαθεσιμότητα από 6 έως 8 Μαΐου 2025 για συμμετοχή στα εργαστήρια στα Ιωάννινα

This process-driven project utilizes database storytelling to create insightful narratives that document and represent textile heritage in the selected regions. Forget big data and dive into local grassroots data! Through participatory research, we will map connections to textile heritage and their communities of practice in Slovenia, Greece and Poland.
During three art and research-based residencies, each involving five students or young professionals of culture and art, one invited artist, one heritage researcher and local communities, we will collect fieldwork data, document the process and form various databases. Photographs, audio and video recordings, written descriptions and sketches, will serve as data documentation for analytics and visualization. In a 6-week residency project, the interdisciplinary team will transform the data into a tangible textile piece, with subsequent exhibition projects.
We are searching for 15 students or culture and art young professionals to join us in the project. We will start in Greece at the intensive Database Storytelling Workshop Programme. Apply below, we are looking forward to meeting you!

📽️ Join us tonight, Monday, April 8th, at 20:30 in Στούντιο ευρυχώρος, Athens, for the screening of the research documentary film, "The Quality of Image" by Sezer Salihi.

🎬 Synopsis:
The research is focused on life indicators (people) and standards of living, presenting both objective and subjective interpretations to assess the quality of life. In this research, we will reconstruct the image of the quality of life in Athens.

This enlightening documentary was created during an art-based research residency, funded by Goethe-Institut Athen and Culture Moves Europe, hosted by the local institution Biennale Of Western Balkans.

"When in Bucharest" - Wandering Arts Caravan 📌

Since day one of ECHO III - For Memory's Sake, the Caravan Tour felt like a distant dream. Yet, here we are, turning that dream into a reality.

Yesterday, at our very first stop in Bucharest, we weaved an enchanting tradition tapestry and it was truly an artistic ODE for the arranged marriages.

A blend of theatre, screenings, music, poetry, and the immersive experience of our exhibition inside the Pezize, created a unique moment for the Balkan audience, revealing both the striking similarities and intriguing differences among Balkan cultures. It was a profound realisation of how our sounds and customs harmonise and yet stand out, and how our shared experiences and memories bind us together.

As we often say, "Memories are etched in our minds, guiding us forward."

🔴 ECHO III: For Memory’s Sake explores tradition and culture through the themes of marriage, arranged or forced marriages and nuclear families in the Balkan context, specifically focusing on gender roles and norms throughout history.

The 3rd phase of the project includes the Wandering Arts Caravan, travelling this fall across 6 Balkan cities: Bucharest, Vidin, Sofia, Ioannina, Berat, and Lushnje. The Caravan opens a public installation for artists and citizens with music, visual arts, performance and poetry.
