rattlingframes: an emotional participatory archive of Athens during the Covid-19 lockdown
How have spatial dynamics altered under a pandemic threat within empty cities? How do we understand terms such as “outside” and “together” when they have been connected with danger, contamination and hostility? The citizens of Athens record with their own means and cell phones the absence in their motionless city. In a city that resembles an empty movie set, the discussion on urban struggles, spatial dynamics and the reclaim of public space is abruptly being paused. Our wandering is now distressed and strictly observed under the pretext of the emergency. How do we perceive the new concept of our city from the safety of our apartments?
Rattlingframes invites us to record and share our new understanding of “outside”, the part of public space that is visible from our windows and balconies or as experienced during our neighborhood stroll and share our emotions in a few words. The aim of this project is to create a collective archive of Athens under lockdown and visualize its emotional imprint on an interactive map.
Take a video with your cell phones or cameras, maximum 30sec, add your name or initials, the area, the name of the street and your current emotions, upload and become a contributor of rattlingframes.
