Another beautiful (and windy!) day at the outdoor Wu Wei Weaving studio at OSHO Afroz Meditation Center. Eleni Savasana Andreadou made a very original piece with lots of cotton and silk. You can see me modelling it.

Step 2 of making the vest: sewing. The lovely Tlz movement clothes helped me figure out what could work best as a garment given the length and drape of the cloth I made. It is not always easy to sew with Saori cloth because of the intricacies of the handmade and unique fabric. You want to make a nicely sewn piece while preserving some of the beautiful features of the cloth. Because they are all about the individuality of the person who made it.

We decided to go for a long-ish vest/tunique. Nadia was so great, she picked out a stretchy material to bring the two sides together which fit so well with the colour scheme. Apparently stretchy fabric works well when sewing together with Saori cloth as it helps give more flexibility to the sometimes rigid handwoven cloth. The result was so great and it all happened in 2 hours!
I’m really happy with the result and it’s a garment I will cherish for life. And I’m so excited about experimenting further with sewing and for new collaborations when I’m back in Le**os!

There’s some delay on my journey back to Greece so I’ll use the time to share some more photos of the process of making the vest from the previous post.

Step 1: the weaving. After a brief yellow period I’m back on the orange, one of my favourite colours! :) I used hand spun organic khadi cotton and recycled sari silk from India. As well as some leftover yarns from previous projects. So, creating a truly sustainable, no-waste garment 🌱✨
